    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title compsn. which has an effective flame retardance effect without detriment to the excellent properties inherent in rubber such as breaking resistance and abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:The title compsn. which is vulcanizable and has an oxygen index of 19.8-27.5 is prepd. by compounding 100 pts.wt. rubber compsn. contg. a rubber component comprising 50-87wt.% natural and/or polyisoprene rubber, 10-30wt.% polybutadiene rubber prepd. by the polymn. using a cobalt compd. catalyst, and 3-45wt.% elastomer having nitrile groups (the sum of the three rubbers being 100wt.%) with 1-24 pts.wt. red phosphorus in such amts. that the sum of red phosphorus and the elastomer having nitrile groups accounts for 60wt.% or lower of the resulting compsn.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject composition having specific critical oxygen index and flame-retardant content, containing a flame-retardant consisting of a combination of a halogenated hydrocarbon thermoplastic polymer and a metal oxide and capable of imparting fire-preventing function to a tire without lowering the performance of the tire. CONSTITUTION:The objective flame-retardant rubber composition for tire having a critical oxygen index of 19.8-27.5 is produced by compounding (A) a natural rubber, etc., with (B) rubber chemicals such as carbon black, stearic acid, ZnO sulfur, vulcanization accelerator and antioxidant and (C) a flame-retardant consisting of a combination of a halogenated hydrocarbon thermoplastic polymer and a metal oxide. The total amount of the flame-retardant is =70 deg.C and a melt- viscosity of >=1,000poise at 150 deg.C. The metal oxide is antimony trioxide, MgO, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a rubber tire having extremely high fire retardant property without damaging basic performances even when the rubber tire encounters a high temperature fire source having a large heat capacity by setting the degree of fire retardancy at 10 or more. CONSTITUTION:At least a part of an outer covering rubber part including the surface is constituted of one or more fire retardant rubber composite layers L1, L2. When the oxygen index (O. I) of the rubber composite layers L1, L2 is taken as 19.8 or more, the ratio of the surface area of the rubber composite layers to the entire surface area of the outer covering rubber part is represented by S, the weight of the rubber composite layers is V (kg), and the ratio of the weight V (kg) of the rubber composite layers to the total weight (kg) of the outer covering rubber part is R, the absolute value of the sum of (O. I.) (oxygen index of the respective fire retardant rubber composite layers) XSXVXR is defined as the degree of fire retardancy. In this case, the degree of fire-retardancy of a rubber tire provided with the tread rubber layer, the outer covering rubber part, a reinforcing part, is set at 10 or more. Thus, the fire retardant property can be enhanced even when the rubber tire encounters with a high-temperature fire source having a large heat capacity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an elastomer by blending a specific ultrahigh-molecular weight copolymer composition with an oil. CONSTITUTION:An ultrahigh-molecular weight elastomer is obtained by blending (A) 100 pts. wt. ultrahigh-molecular weight copolymer composition, prepared by polymerizing a 1,3-conjugated diene (e.g. 1,3-butadiene, isoprene or piperylene) with a vinyl aromatic compound (e.g. styrene) in the presence of a trimetalated 1-alkyne catalyst [a product of reaction between a >=4C 1-alkyne with an organometallic compound expressed by the formula R M (R is aliphatic or alicyclic group; M is alkali metal) and the 1,3-conjugated diene] in a hydrocarbon solvent and having >=2000000 weight-average molecular weight with (B) 30-300 pts. wt., preferably 50-300 pts. wt. extender oil.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a highmolecular mechanochemical actuator with excellent breaking strength against shearing stress and easy in highmolecular structure control by applying highmolecular denaturation to a part or the whole of reactive hydrauphobic highmolecular segment after polymerization so as to be provided with a hydrophilic nature. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer of a hydrophobic polymerized monomer and a polymerized monomer with which a hydrauphilic high molecular segment can be composed by applying highmolecular denaturation according to the necessity after the copolymerization with the above mentioned hydrophilic polymerized monomer, or a highmolecular material containing both the hydrophobic and hydrophilic high molecular segments composed of the highmolecular denatured composition of the above material of an mechanochemical actuator. This mechanochemical actuator is high in strength and excellent in responsibility owing to its formation of the highmolecular material containing the hydrauphibic highmolecular segment acting as a reinforcing layer and the hydrauphilic high molecular segment generating reversible structural change to become the motive force of reversible expansion. In addition, highmolecular structure control is easy in the manufacturing process because of its formation of the copolymer of the hydrophobic polymer, reactive hydrauphobic polymer and/or the hydrauphilic polymer, or its high-molecular denatured composition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an electroviscous liq. having excellent stability and electrical response characteristics by conducting solvent replacement of a silica sol comprising a predetermined amt. of SiO2 dispersed in water or an org. solvent and using a non-reactive (modified) silicone oil having a predetermined specific gravity as a dispersion medium. CONSTITUTION:A silica sol comprising 5-50wt.% SiO2 dispersed in water or an org. solvent (e.g., methanol) is provided. Then, an electroviscous liq. is produced by conducting solvent replacement of the silica sol and using a non- reactive silicone oil or modified silicone oil having a specific gravity of 0.9-1.3 as a dispersion medium. Such solvent replacement can be attained by a method comprising distilling off water and low b.p. substances, a method comprising using an ultrafilter membrane, or other methods. The obtd. electroviscous liq. can be used in such a state that it is in direct contact with a rubber-like elastic material, because the electroviscous liq. does not contain any oil, solvent or the like which swells or dissolves the rubber-like elastic material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an electroviscous liquid which has high stability and can be used by directly dissolving a rubbery elastomer in it, by using fine particles of a polymer of a hydrophilic monomer having an alkoxysilane-modified inorganic sol (powder) as a core as the dispersed phase and a silicone oil as the liquid phase. CONSTITUTION:An inorganic sol such as colloidal silica or the like dispersed in water or an organic solvent or an inorganic powder such as silica powder is modified by adding thereto a solution of an organosilicon compound of the general formula: X-Si(OR)3 or (RO)3-Si-X-Si(OR)3 (wherein X is a hydrophobic group), for example, gamma-glycidoxytrimethoxysilane, in an organic solvent. A hydrophilic monomer such as acrylamide or methacrylamide and a polymerization catalyst are added to the above mixture and polymerized. To the obtained dispersed phase of the fine particles (of a particle diameter of 0.5-100mmu and a specific gravity of 0.90-1.30, desirably, 0.91-1.10) is added a silicone oil of the same specific gravity as that of the dispersed phase as the liquid phase to obtain an electroviscous liquid. The ratio of the dispersed phase to the liquid phase is 5-50/95-5(wt.%).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a highly water-absorbing gel compsn. exhibiting no pasty state even when it absorbs water by adding a soln. of a specified Si compd. to an inorg. sol dispersed in water or an org. solvent to modify it, adding furthermore a specified polymerizable monomer and a catalyst and polymerizing it. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of at least one compd. of formula I or II (wherein X is a hydrophobic substituent) (e.g., gamma-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane) dissolved in water or an org. solvent is added to an inorg. sol (e.g., silica sol or alumina sol) dispersed in water or an org. solvent to modify it and furthermore, a hydrophilic polymerizable monomer having a C=C double bond (e.g., acrylic acid, its metal salts, acrylamide, its deriv.) and a polymn. catalyst are added thereto and polymerized to prepare the title gel. As this filler-reinforced gel compsn. has high strength and the swelling property is not spoiled, it is useful in such wide applications as a water-absorbing agent for sanitary materials, a drying inhibitor, a humidity adjusting agent, a solidifying agent for dirt mud, or an antistatic agent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled novel silane coupling agent, consisting of a Diels- Alder reaction product of a silylated butadiene having a specific structure with a specific compound and having excellent improving effects on mechanical properties of rubber compositions without affecting processability, etc., of the above-mentioned components. CONSTITUTION:A 2-silylated-1,3-butadiene expressed by the formula (X is hydrolyzable substituent group; R is alkyl or aryl; n is 1-3) and a compound (e.g. benzoquinone) having two or more carbon-carbon double bonds with an adjacent electron attractive group are subjected to the Diels-Alder reaction to afford the aimed silane coupling agent. Furthermore, the 2-silylated-1,3-butadiene expressed by the formula is obtained by, e.g. subjecting chloroprene and chlorosilane to the Grignard reaction. Rubber compositions are preferably modified with an inorganic filler for exhibiting more effects of the above-mentioned silane coupling agent.
