    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a character processor by using an input means, a memory means and a designation means and excluding the numeric character strings including the characters or symbols other than the numeric characters in a numeric character string area out of those numeric character strings of a designated range to apply the arithmetic operations only other numeric character strings. CONSTITUTION:The characters, numeric characters and symbols are inputted through a keyboard 27 and the plural input character strings are stored in a numeric character string area 25. Then the presence or absence of a range designation key is decided. If the presence of the range destination key is decided, it is decided whether a flag HS under designation of a range is equal to 0 or not. If HS is set at 0, a range designation mode is decided. Thus the HS is set at 1 and the present cursor position is stored in a range start address HSA. While the HS is set at 0 in case HS = 1 is satisfied and the present cursor position is stored in a range end address HEA. Then the operation is through when all key input actions are over. In such a constitution, no sorting process is required and a numeric character string of a certain sort can be calculated.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent necessary external characters from being deleted by mistake when an external character is deleted by displaying an external character which is edited currently and other external characters distinctively when external characters are listed. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with a 1st storage means for storing characters and symbols inputted by an input means 101 and a 2nd storage means 103 for storing external characters generated by an operator, and when external characters are listed, the external character stored in the 1st storage means 102 and other external characters are displayed on a display means 104 distinctively. Unnecessary external characters are therefore easily deleted and external characters which need to be moved to and stored in an external storage device are known at a glance. Consequently, external characters which are used currently for a document being edited are prevented from being deleted by mistake.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify key operation and to improve an input speed by automatically inputting the right mark out of right-left symmetrical marks when the left mark is inputted in an insertion mode and inputting a character string between the right and left marks. CONSTITUTION:When an insertion key on a keyboard 1b is depressed, the state of an insertion mode flag formed on a work 1f is changed to '1' and the insertion mode is set. When the left mark out of a pair of right-left marks is inputted, a pair of right-left marks are displayed on a cursor position 4c in a character string (C) in stead of 'ni' (Japanese syllabary) and the position of the cursor is carried by one digit to form the state of a character string (D). Then, the input key processing of each character is repeated by a character input key and the state of a character string (E) is set. When the left mark is inputted in the insertion mode capable of surrounding a certain character string by right-left symmetrical marks such as parentheses and inserting a supplementary explanation, the right mark is automatically inputted and the character string can be inputted, so that the key operation can be simplified and the input speed can be improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent impossibility in a process and the undetection of ineffective data by storing the data which is decided ineffective by means of assigning a code which can be discriminated from the one used for effective data and which shows what number of the ineffective data it is. CONSTITUTION:When an input key on a keyboard 3 is pushed, the contents of a sentence file in the area DD of a memory 9 is outputted to an external storage device 11 through a bus 13. When an output trigger key on the keyboard 3 is pushed, the data stored in the external storage device 11 is sequentially stored in the sentence file area DD on the memory 9. And when the data which does not exist in JIS codes comes out, the code which is not used in the JIS codes is assigned to the data and it is stored in the sentence file. In order to display it the stored codes are used to access the area CGB of the memory 7, so that a character font which shows an input order and that the inputted data is ineffective data is displayed in the position in the sentence.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To miniaturize an inputting device, to improve its efficiency of operation and to reduce erroneous operation by changing function of a key out of a key group arranged in matrix-like form to a cursor shifting key when a cursor mode is set. CONSTITUTION:Various input codes made by code converting input from a keyboard 5e by a keyboard controller 5d are read by a CPU 5a. In the case of a cursor mode and not special keys, the position of inputted key to the center key is judged. Relative size of higher 4 bits of inputted key code and higher 4 bits of the center key is examined, and when higher 4 bits of key code is larger, the cursor is shifted downward by the difference. When higher 4 bits is smallerm, the cursor is shifted upward by the difference. Then, relative size of lower 4 bits of the center key and lower 4 bits of inputted code is examined, and when the inputted code is larger, the cursor is shifted to the right by the difference, and said code is smaller, the cursor is shifted to the left by the difference. When the lower 4 bits are equal, returned to original key input, as the depressed key is the center key.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the wear of an effective cylinder and the data destruction in the effective cylinder by moving a head at a position at the outside of the effective cylinder while a disk device is not used for a series data access. CONSTITUTION:When the time of a timer 331 is over, since it is the time when a CPU 1 does not use the disk device for the purpose of data read/write, a timeout signal TO of the timer 331 energizes a set switch circuit 332 and new seek is generated automatically depending on the set content of the set switch circuit 332. The set content is a cylinder number at the outside of the effective cylinder. Thus, even when the CPU 1 gives no intervention, the head is in standby at the cylinder at the outside of the effective cylinder. Thus, the data destruction within the effective cylinder is prevented and the wear of the effective cylinder is avoided.

CONSTITUTION:A keyboard 1b is connected to a processing unit 1a of a character processor, and character strings are fed in plural shift modes. In addition, a document file 1c which stores the character strings fed to the unit 1a is connected to the keyboard 1b together with an RAM 1d and a display device 1e which shows the fed character strings, the character strings stored in the file 1c and other character strings. The RAM 1d contains a cursor font buffer CFB, a cursor position character buffer CPCB, a mode display cycle register MDSR and a program memory PM. While the keyboard 1b includes switch keys for each shift mode, a cursor shift key, a screen operation key, etc. Then the shift mode is displayed to the device 1e in response to the program of the RAM 1d and under the control of the unit 1a. Thus an operator can recognize the shift mode.
