Abstract: A method of binder jet printing a part includes depositing a layer of a powder on a working surface and selectively printing a binder solution comprising a binder into the layer of powder in a first pattern to generate a printed layer. The pattern is representative of a structure of a layer of the part. The method also includes selectively printing a channel support agent solution comprising a channel support agent into the layer of powder to generate a green body. The channel support agent is selectively printed in a second pattern representative of an internal channel of the part. The method further includes heating the green body part above a first temperature to remove the binder and generate a brown body part and heating the brown body part above a second temperature to sinter the powder to generate the part having the internal channel generated from removal of the channel support agent.

Abstract: A clad article is disclosed including an article and a cladding layer. The article includes a surface layer, at least one cavity disposed within the article below the surface layer, and at least one microcrack disposed in the surface layer. The surface layer includes an HTW alloy. The cladding layer is disposed on a surface of the surface layer, and is formed from a PSP brazed to the article. The cladding layer is disposed over the at least one microcrack. A method for forming the clad article is disclosed including disposing the PSP on the article and brazing the PSP to the article. Brazing the PSP to the article forms the cladding layer disposed on the article over the at least one microcrack.

Abstract: A hybrid article is disclosed including a coating disposed on and circumscribing the lateral surface of a core having a core material. The coating includes about 35% to about 95% of a first metallic material having a first melting point, and about 5% to about 65% of a second metallic material having a second melting point lower than the first melting point. A method for forming the hybrid article is disclosed including disposing the core in a die, forming a gap between the lateral surface and the die, introducing a slurry having the metallic materials into the gap, and sintering the slurry, forming the coating. A method for closing an aperture of an article is disclosed including inserting the hybrid article into the aperture. Closing the aperture includes brazing the hybrid article to the article, welding the aperture with the hybrid article serving as weld filler, or a combination thereof.

The electrospark device applies a coating of a material when placed into contact with the metal substrate. A cooling device to lowers the temperature of shielding gas flow below an ambient temperature. A conduit is arranged to direct a flow of the shielding gas to the interface of the electrode and the substrate to cool the area of the substrate receiving the coating.

Abstract: A turbine airfoil for a rotating blade or stationary nozzle vane includes an airfoil body including a leading edge and a trailing edge. A coolant supply passage extends within the airfoil body and a coolant return passage extends within the airfoil body, with each passage having respective a supply and return connection passage to an exterior surface of the airfoil body. A seat in the exterior surface of the airfoil body receives a cover that includes a trench on an interior surface thereof to fluidly connect the return connection passage and the supply connection passage and form a coolant passage for the airfoil body. Various arrangements of cooling circuits may be created with the cover that allow for reuse of the coolant.

Abstract: A method for in-process monitoring of a 3D manufacturing apparatus or quality control of a 3D manufactured structure is provided. The method includes a generating step that generates an acoustic wave in the 3D manufactured structure. A receiving step receives the acoustic wave with a microphone array. An analyzing step analyzes a frequency spectrum of the acoustic wave. A determining step determines if the frequency spectrum indicates a defect in the 3D manufactured structure.

Abstract: Provided are an article and a method of forming an article. The method includes providing a metallic powder, heating the metallic powder to a temperature sufficient to joint at least a portion of the metallic powder to form an initial layer, sequentially forming additional layers in a build direction by providing a distributed layer of the metallic powder over the initial layer and heating the distributed layer of the metallic powder, repeating the steps of sequentially forming the additional layers in the build direction to form a portion of the article having a hollow space formed in the build direction, and forming an overhang feature extending into the hollow space. The article includes an article formed by the method described herein.
