Abstract: 1395358 Optical brighteners in laminates HOECHST AG 30 June 1972 [3 July 1971] 30739/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] A plastics sheet or film containing TiO 2 pigment is coated with a transparent layer containing a dissolved optical brightener. The brightener may be a compound of the formula where R 1 and R 2 are the same or different and may be a carboxy or alkoxycarbonyl group or, preferably, hydrogen. The transparent layer may comprise another plastics film or sheet. In an example, TiO 2 pigmented plasticized p.v.c. was used as substrate, with an unpigmented film containing the optical brightener 1,4 - bis - (benzoxazol - 2 - yl) - naphthalene being laminated on to the substrate sheet.
