    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce strain in a metallic pattern and mold and to improve ther mal working environment by coating the surface of refractory aggregate with solid product which is obtained by reacting alpha,beta-unsaturated dibasic acid, etc., with a specific furan compound, thereby lowing curing temperature. CONSTITUTION:With the furan compound as shown in the formula I, alpha,beta-unsaturated dibasic acid or acid anhydride is reacted to obtain the produced material. If the produced material is solid state at room temp., this is used as it is, and if not, this is solidified by using modifier. The produced material is added to heated molding sand with finely pulverized or bulky state, or added to molding sand after being dissolved by heating or in solvent, thereby sticking the material on the surface of the refractory aggregate. As the refractory aggregate coating the composition for manufacturing the mold in such way, has low curing temp., the reduced strain in the metallic mold and the mold, and the improved thermal working environment. Further, as the curing agent is unnecessary, the casting defect due to nitrogen gas is not developed.

CONSTITUTION:The refractory grain of Al2O3, SiO2, etc., having 10mum to 5mm diameter is mixed with an org. compd. capable of forming a pyrolytic carbon film, e.g. an aromatic monomer such as toluene, synthetic resin such is phenolic resin and polyamide resin and natural resin such as rosin, and the mixture is placed in a crucible which is then closed with a lid. The crucible is put in a heating furnace, the mixture is heated in the furnace to about 600-1500 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere of N2, etc., roasted for a specified time, then cooled to room temp. and discharged, and the refractory grain coated with a pyrolytic carbon film is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the degradation in the strength of a casting mold at the time of igniting and drying by incorporating a solvent having specific low polarity into an alcoholic mold coat compsn. to be applied on the surface of the casting mold formed of an acid curing binder, acidic hardener and refractories. CONSTITUTION: The org. solvent having a dissolution parameter of 6.5 to 11.0 and 3 to 10C is incorporated at 2 to 80wt. into this coating agent compsn. The acid hardener is one or >=2 kinds selected from an orthophosphoric acid, sulfuric acid and xylene sulfonic acid. Further, the dissolution parameter of the org. solvent is preferably 7.0 to 10.0 and more preferably 7.0 to 9.0. The carbon atoms of the org. solvent are preferably 5 to 7. In either case the content of the org. solvent is specified to 5 to 50wt.%.
