    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate having a high purity and excellent electrical insulation properties by removing a basic substance contained in a polycarbonate, prepared in the presence of a basic catalyst, by washing with water and/or by contact with an inorganic ion exchanger. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate is prepared in the presence of a basic catalyst (e.g. NaOCH3), and the contained basic substance is removed from this polycarbonate by washing with water and/or by contact with an inorganic ion exchanger (e.g. zeolite). According to the above process, a polycarbonate freed from the basic substance and excellent in electrical insulation properties can be easily prepared.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily obtain an aromatic polycarbonate containing little organotin compound by reaction between 2,2'-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane and dimethyl carbonate in the presence of an organotin compound at a specified temperature and separating the solid organotin compound formed. CONSTITUTION:(A) 1mol of 2,2'-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane is incorporated with (B) 1X10 to 1X10 mol of an organotin compound followed by (C) dimethyl carbonate at the molar ratio C/A=0.5 to 20, and the resulting mixture is allowed to react at 180 to 280 deg.C under an increased pressure of 1 to 50kg/cm . The organotin compound gradually solidified in the reaction solution is separated through e.g. filtration and recovered, thus obtaining the objective aromatic polycarbonate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain compounds useful as an intermediate for dyes, high polymers, ultraviolet ray absorbers, etc., by reacting phenols with aromatic carboxylic acids in the presence of a polysiloxane catalyst having sulfonated phenyl groups. CONSTITUTION:Phenols expressed by the formula Ar-(OH)n (Ar is aromatic compound residue and benzene ring, naphthalene ring, etc.; n is 1-2) are reacted with aromatic carboxylic acids expressed by the formula Ar-(COOH)n in the presence of a polysiloxane catalyst having sulfonated phenyl groups at 100-400 deg.C temperature in a solvent, such as benzene, for 1-20hr to afford the aimed substances. The above-mentioned catalyst is obtained by sulfonating a polysiloxane having phenyl groups. The reaction is carried out by using the aromatic carboxylic acids in an amount of 1-1,000mol. based on 100mol. phenols and the catalyst in an amount of 0.1-100pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. raw material compounds.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for polyurethane, etc., in high yield, by bringing a condensate of aniline and formaldehyde into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst in a gas phase. CONSTITUTION:An aniline is obtained from a condensate of aniline and formaldehyde. In the operation, the condensate is brought into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst especially preferably containing metals such as Fe, Co or Ni of group VIII in a gas phase. Temperature wherein the condensate is brought into contact with hydrogen is usually 200-700 deg.C, preferably 300-550 deg.C. The reaction in the gas phase is carried out under reduced pressure, normal pressure or under pressure and usually the reaction pressure is set at 0.1-20 atm., preferably normal pressure -5 atm. and the reaction is done. By this method, aniline can be recovered from a high polymer condensate of aniline and formaldehyde, such as polymethylene polyphenylamine.

(A), 1-60pts.wt. carbonate oligomer of the formula (wherein Ar is a dihydric phenol residue such as phenyl or biphenyl; n obtd. by means of C NMR analysis is 0-20; hydroxyl equivalent is 100-2,800) (B), 0.05-5.0pts.wt. catalyst (C) and, if necessary, a reaction aid such as alpha-diol, water and polyol compd. having neighboring OH groups (D) at 70-130 deg.C for 5min or less and reacting them under an ordinary pressure or a high pressure at 120-240 deg.C for 5-40min.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield from HCHO, CO and H2, by using a catalyst obtained from a rhodium compound and a bismuth compound. CONSTITUTION:HCHO is reacted with CO and H2 in the presence of a catalyst obtained from a rhodium compound, e.g. rhodium chloride, and a bismuth compound, e.g. BiCl3, in a reaction medium forming the liquid phase to give the aimed compound. The gram-atomic ratio between Bi and Rh is preferably 0.15- 0.4 in the catalyst. Preferably, the reaction pressure is about 10-500kg/cm , and the reaction temperature is about 50-250 deg.C. An organic diluting agent, e.g. THF, is preferably used as the reaction medium. The amount of the rhodium compound in the diluting agent is generally about 5X10 mol based on one l organic diluting agent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound economically, in high yield, from CO and H2, by using a catalyst system comprising a combination of a rhodium compound, a ruthenium compound, and a cocatalyst selected from alkali metals, ammonia, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound, esp. ethylene glycol, can be prepared from CO and H2, by using a 3-component catalyst system comprising (A) a rhodium compound, (B) a ruthenium compound, and (C) at least one cocatalyst selected from alkali metal compounds, alkaline earth metal compounds, ammonia, quaternary ammonium compounds and organic amine compunds. The gram- atom ratio of ruthenium in the component B to the sum of rhodium in the component A and ruthenium in the component B(Ru/Rh+Ru) is pref. about 0.10-0.95, esp. 0.20-0.80.
