Abstract: Processes and for embossing and applying adhesive to thin film webs and webs made by the processes are disclosed. Adhesive is applied to a first patterned embossing roll (16) that is engaged with a second embossing roll (14) having a complementary pattern to the first roll. A web of sheet material (12) is then passed between the embossing rolls to simultaneously emboss and apply adhesive to the web. The web is removed from the first patterned roll, where the adhesive cohesively fails and splits so that some adhesive remains on the first roll, and some of the adhesive remains on the web and forms an adhesive pattern between embossments in the web.
