Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lactone compound, especially gamma-butyrolactone, useful as a solvent for organic electroconductive solutions or as a raw material for pyrrolidone compounds from a saturated or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivative under a mild condition by one step hydrogenation. CONSTITUTION:When a saturated or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivative, especially succinic acid and/or maleic acid derivative, is hydrogenated, the hydrogenation is performed in the presence of a VIII group noble such as Pd, Rb, Ru, In, Pt, preferably Pd, supported on a carrier as a catalyst in the coexistence of an organic alkali metal salt at a 50-300 deg.C, preferably 120-250 deg.C, under a hydrogen pressure of 10-150kg/cm , preferably 15-120/cm , to highly selectively obtain a lactone, especially gamma-butyrolactone, by the one step hydrogenation under a more mild condition than in the cases of known catalysts even when either of the saturated and unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivatives is employed as the raw material.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a catalyst as an economical industrial catalyst and manufacture vinylsilanes industrially at high selectivity by using a complex compound with a specified composition as a catalyst for hydrosilylation of acetylenes. CONSTITUTION:A complex expressed as A [M2H(CO)10] (A stands for alkali metal cation, ammonium cation, etc., M stands for chromium atom, molybdenum atom, etc.) is used as a catalyst for hydrosilylation reaction of acetylenes, especially for manufacture of vinylsilane from acetylenes. This catalyst is an economical industrial catalyst since no expensive group VIII metal complex is used. Moreover, with the catalyst, vinylsilane is manufactured industrially at high selectivity.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a carboxylic acid or ester thereof in high yield by reacting halogen compound with carbon monoxide and water or alcohol in the presence of a transition metal catalyst of group VIII and a specific urea derivative. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by the formula R -X (R is aromatic group, aralkyl, alkenyl or alkyl; (x) is halogen) is allowed to react with carbon monoxide and a compound shown by the formula R -OH (R is H, alkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl or aryl) at 20-200 deg.C, preferably 50-150 deg.C in the presence of a transition metal catalyst of group VIII and a compound shown by formula I (R to R are H, alkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aryl or any two of R to R are bonded to form a ring) such as tetramethylurea or 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone to give a carboxylic acid shown by formula II. The amount of the urea derivative used is preferably equivalent to that of the halogen compound or an excess amount and th urea derivative can also be used as a diluent.

CONSTITUTION:A complex represented by a general formula A [M2H(CO)10] (where A is an alkali metal ion, an ammonium cation, etc., and M is Cr, Mo, etc.) is used as a catalyst for hydrogenation of the C-O double bond of aldehyde, ketone, etc. This catalyst for hydrogenation is inexpensive, is used on an industrial scale and initiates a reaction at about 0-150 deg.C. This reaction proceeds efficiently with high safety.
