SOLUTION: Portable terminals 11 and 12 are small devices having a telephone function and are provided with a recording medium that stores a user ID and language information being used, for example, such as a subscriber identity module(SIM) card. Communication between the terminals 11 and 12 is conducted through a translation server 17 connected to a network 15 and the communication is translated. The server 17 is provided with a line L on the network 15, for example, to receive voice signals from the terminal 11 and to transmit translated results (voice signals) of the voice signals from the terminal 12 to the terminal 11. Moreover, the server 17 is provided with a line P on the network 15 to receive voice signals from the terminal 12 and to transmit translated results of the voice signals from the terminal 11 to the terminal 12.

SOLUTION: Terminals 11 and 12 are connected to a network 3 via devices having the telephone functions respectively, and the users A and B can talk with each other via the terminals 11 and 12. Both users A and B interpret their speech contents via one of interpretation service providing devices 13-1 to 13-3. The device 13-1 functions as a server which has a speech recognition function, a machine translation function and a voice synthesizing function in addition to a history information storage function. Thus, the device 13-1 stores the contents of hitherto conversations, executes the interpretation based on the stored conversation contents and supplies the conversation history information to other devices 13-2 and 13-3 as necessary.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To easily perform various operations such as the set of a coordinate position by providing respective specified map information memory means, map display means, voice data memory means, and voice recognizing means. CONSTITUTION: When a target position is retrieved, the driver of an automobile speaks the town name of the target position to a microphone 6, thereby, a recognizing processing circuit 22 recognizes this voice, and supplies data such as the target position to a system controller 15. When the target shown by the voice is not present on a displayed map, that is, a word to be recognized showing the target is not supplied to the processing circuit 22 and the voice can not be recognized, a wide map is automatically displayed, the corresponding word to be recognized is supplied to the processing circuit 22, and when the voice showing the area including the target is recognized, the map display of the set range including the area containing the target is returned. Thus, even when the target point is not present on the displayed map, the area containing the target is properly designated by voice, thereby, the target point can be displayed on the map, and made to be the object for voice recognition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To miniaturize a portable telephone set and to attain the reduction in cost and to prevent wiretapping by using code division multiple access CDMA by eliminating the need for a control channel. CONSTITUTION:A BS 10 displays idle spread codes onto a display panel 11 to inform a caller of an MS 20 of it. The caller selects one of the spread codes and enters a portable telephone set being the MS 20 and enters a telephone number being a talking destination. The MS 20 uses the selected spread code to send a DTMF signal to an exchange 31. The exchange 31 sets a talking path and the talking is started when the opposite party replies the call, the talking is started. When the talking is finished, the MS 20 stops the transmission of a carrier. The BS 10 detects the carrier interruption to send an interruption signal to the exchange 31. The BS 10 displays the spread code used onto the display panel 11 and the exchange 31 restores the talking path and implement charge processing.
