Abstract: Provided is an image coding method that partitions an input image signal into processing units, and that codes the partitioned image to generate a code sequence. In particular, the image coding method determines a partitioning pattern for hierarchically partitioning the input image signal in order starting from a largest unit of the processing units, generates partition information indicative of the partitioning pattern, and codes partition information. The partition information includes maximum used hierarchy depth information indicative of a maximum used hierarchy depth which is a hierarchy depth of a deepest processing unit of the processing units included in the partitioning pattern.

Abstract: An image coding method for coding an input image per block to generate a coded image signal includes: predicting for each prediction unit which is an area obtained by partitioning a target block to generate a prediction image of the target block; comparing a transform unit which is an area obtained by partitioning the target block and is a processing unit for frequency transform with the prediction unit, to detect part of a boundary of the prediction unit, the boundary being located within the transform unit; performing boundary filtering on the detected part of the boundary in the generated prediction image; calculating a difference between a filtered prediction image and the input image to generate a difference image of the target block; and performing frequency transform on the difference image for each transform unit.

A first candidate, having a first motion vector that has been used to decode a first block, is searched for from one or more candidates. The first block is spatially or temporally adjacent to the current block. Two or more second candidates, each having a second motion vector being a zero vector, are derived when the first candidate is unavailable in the searching. A current block is decoded using derived candidates. The derived candidates include the two or more second candidates.

Abstract: An encoding method of encoding units included in a picture is provided. The encoding method generates a first flag indicating whether a removal time of encoded data from a buffer by a hypothetical decoder is set per unit. When the removal time is set per unit, a second flag is generated which indicates whether an interval between removal times of the units is constant. When the second flag indicates that the interval is constant, common-interval information is generated which is distinct from the second flag and indicates a constant time interval between the removal times of the units. A bitstream including the encoded data, the first flag, the second flag, and the common-interval information is generated. The first flag is included in video usability information of the bitstream. The second flag and the common-interval information are included in control information of the bitstream.
