    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve scratch resistance by specifying the distribution of the concn. of inert particles in a film consisting mainly of a thermoplastic resin and the inert particles. CONSTITUTION:A pelletized thermoplastic resin contg. a specified amt. of inert particles with a degree of vacuum of not more than 1.6 is extruded into a sheet and set by cooling to give an unstretched film, which is stretched in the longitudinal direction at a temp. within the range of from 10 deg.C lower to 10 deg.C higher than the glass transition paint of the resin at a stretching rate of 1,000-10,000%/min, and then stretched in the transverse direction at a relative humidity of 50% and a temp. within the range of from 10 deg.C lower to 30 deg.C higher than the glass transition paint at the stretching rate of 1,000-20,000%/min to give a biaxially oriented thermoplastic resin film wherein a depth (a distance from the surface), A nm, at a point where the particle concn. is one tenth of that at the surface and a depth, B nm, at a point (B>A) where the particle concn. is the same as that at the surface satisfy relations I and II in a distribution curve of the particle concn. measured from at least one surface of the film to a point of 3,000nm deep.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film which can exhibit excellent running performance and output characteristics even without any backcoat, by specifying the state of surface protrusions ascribable to particles of a biaxially oriented polyester film containing two kinds of fine silica particles of different mean particle diameters. CONSTITUTION:This biaxially oriented polyester film is formed from a polyester containing two kinds of fine silica particles of different mean particles diameters, wherein the diameter of a film surface protrusion ascribable to particles is 0.5-8.0mum, the difference between the mean of the diameters of the protrusions and that of particles of a smaller diameter is 1.0mum or above, and the number of protrusions of a larger diameter is 5000/mm or smaller, and the number of protrusions of a smaller diameter is 15000/mm or larger. It is desirable that the means particle diameter of the particles of a smaller diameter is 0.03-0.5mum, and the mean particle diameter of particles of a larger diameter is 0.4-1.5mum, because the running performances of a tape prepared from the film are still better.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film giving a magnetic tape free from drop-out and having excellent transportability, especially transportability and abrasion resistance under high temperature and humidity condition, by forming a film from a resin containing inorganic porous fine particles in a manner to attain a surface roughness, etc., falling within respective specific ranges. CONSTITUTION:A polyester film having a center-line average roughness Ra and average peak height Rms (determined from a cross-sectional roughness curve) satisfying the formulas Rms/Rs(0.025)=1.4-2.2 and Ra(0.80)/Ra(0.25)=1.5-3.0. The film can be produced by using porous particles having an average particle diameter of 0.6-2.0mum, preferably 0.8-1.5mum and a specific surface area of >=200m /g, preferably >=300 /g and adding the particles to a polyester film at an amount of 0.001-1wt%, preferably 0.002-0.5wt%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a base film which excels in both of an electromagnetic conversion characteristic and runnability by incorporating inert pulverized inorg. particles having a specific average grain size and grain size distribution into a specific polyester. CONSTITUTION:This base film is a biaxially oriented film essentially consisting of the polyester having the structural unit expressed by the formula I as a main repeating unit and the compsn. contg. 0.03-2.0wt% pulverized inorg. particles having 0.03-2.5mum average grain size. The volumetric fraction of the particles sized >=1.3 times the average grain size of the pulverized inorg. particles is 5-45% of the entire part and the average grain size in 5% (vol%) of the particles of the larger grain sizes is 1.3-10 times the average grain size of the entire particle. The base film for the magnetic recording medium having the excellent runnability is thus obtd. without spoiling the electromagnetic conversion characteristic.
