    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the above granular substance excellent in preservation quality for a long-period of time, high-temperature stability and solubility, by applying an aqueous solution of an alkaline metallic hydroxide to grains of calcium hypochlorite dihydrate and/or anhydride and drying the resultant grains while heating. CONSTITUTION:Columnar calcium hypochlorite dihydrate, obtained by adding one or more habit modifiers selected from carboxylic acids (salts) and carbohydrates and having the respective axial ratios (a), (b) and (c) of 0.5 =1.5 with >=5mu (c) axis is grown as a seed crystal to provide grains of calcium hypochlorite dihydrate and/or anhydride having 10-1,000mu (a) and (b) axes and 20-200mu (c) axis. An aqueous solution of an alkaline metallic hydroxide (e.g., NaOH) is several wt.%-50wt.% concentration is then sprayed on the resultant grains so as to provide 1:0.01-0.3 weight ratio of solid to liquid. The resultant grains are subsequently dried by heating so that the moisture content attains 3-20wt.%. Thereby the aimed granular substance of calcium hypochlorite having 0.01-0.30 atomic ratio (M/Ca) of the alkaline metal (M) in a double decomposition product layer of the calcium hypochlorite and alkaline metallic hydroxide to the Ca is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve integrity sticking properties by brining a wet sodium bicarbonate composition into contact with hot air for a specific constant-drying period at a temperature of sodium bicarbonate and drying. CONSTITUTION:Slurry of sodium bicarbonate is separated from liquid by a centrifugal separator to give the wet cake, which is washed with water and dehydrated to produce a wet sodium bicarbonate composition having 2-15wt.% water content. Then the wet sodium bicarbonate composition is brought into contact with hot air at 20-60 deg.C temperature of sodium bicarbonate during a constant-drying period for 2-20 minutes in a dryer such as tunnel dryer. After the constant-drying period is over, the still wet sodium bicarbonate composition is successively brought into contact with hot air and dried, and at a point of time before the temperature of sodium bicarbonate reaches 70 deg.C, sodium bicarbonate is taken out from a drying zone. Further, after the drying, sodium bicarbonate is brought into contact with air at a temperature lower than that of sodium bicarbonate to give sodium bicarbonate having improved sticking properties.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain sodium bicarbonate which hardly solidifies by incorporating hydrophobia silica by a specified proportion to suppress water solubility and moisture absorptivity of sodium bicarbonate. By using the org. solvent, the hydrophobic silica can easily and uniformly be dispersed in sodium bicarbonate, and moreover, a little amt. of hydrophobic silica gives the effect of making the sodium bicarbonate water-insoluble. As for the org. solvent, ethanol is practically preferable since it has no toxicity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the requirement of hydrochloric acid in the process of purifying the alkali chloride aq. soln. to be used for the electrolysis of alkali chloride by cation exchange membrane method, by aerating the soln. under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:Hydrochloric acid is added to the alkali chloride aq. soln. (salt water) to be used for the electrolysis, and the solution is aerated under conditions of 30Nm /(m .time) gas flow and >=2vol% gas holdup. Decomposition of chlorate in the salt water is accelerated by this aeration, and thereby, the requirement of hydrochloric acid can be reduced. Consequently, no alkali nor neutralization process to neutralize excess hydrochloric acid is required. Moreover, since the decomposition of chlorate is smoothly effected, the decomposition device can be made simple and small.
