Abstract: A three-dimensional object printer includes at least one ejector that is operated to form an uppermost layer of photopolymer material on a substrate. The ejected uppermost photopolymer layer is partially cured and a portion of mesh sheet is positioned on the partially cured layer before the at least one eject continues to eject photopolymer material onto the uppermost layer. The portion of the mesh sheet reinforces the layers of photopolymer material and adds strength and durability to the overall part being formed with the photopolymer material.

Abstract: An additive manufacturing system has an extruder and a printhead module with a conveyor for moving between the extruder and the printhead module. The extruder is operated to form a support layer having microneedle protrusions. The conveyor moves the support layer having the microneedle protrusions to a position opposite the printhead module for sharpening of the microneedle protrusions and the application of a medicament to the sharpened microneedle protrusions.

Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) metal object manufacturing apparatus is equipped with a vessel having a receptacle that holds melted metal. The vessel has a divider that prevents metal dross formed at a solid metal inlet of the receptacle to migrate to a portion of the receptacle where a melted metal level sensor directs light.

Abstract: An adhesive sign suited to use in retail applications includes a substrate layer. An adhesive layer is disposed on the substrate layer. The adhesive layer defines an exposed region for attachment to an associated structure. The adhesive layer is derived from a photo-curable inkjet composition. An ink layer is disposed on the substrate layer. The ink layer includes an image. The ink layer is derived from a photo-curable inkjet composition. The adhesive layer and ink layer can be formed in the same inkjet printing process and cured in a common photo-curing station. A stack of the adhesive signs can be assembled without interleaving a release liner between each pair of signs.

Abstract: A method includes generating relative movement between a first part and a three-dimensional (3D) printer. The method also includes introducing drops of a liquid metal onto the first part and a second part using the 3D printer. The liquid metal solidifies to join the first part and the second part together.

Abstract: A marker transport system and a method of operating the marker transport system can include one or more print heads and a marker transport platen upon which a sheet of media moves. The transport platen can include airflow sections comprising process-direction slots. The plates can move in a cross-process direction, and can control airflow in an area under the print heads. The one or more plates in a first position can allow for airflow when the sheet of media is located at the first position and in a second position can block the airflow at the second position. A vacuum can be provided under the sheet of media as the sheet of media traverses a print path across the marker transport platen. A no-vacuum inter-document zone can be provided, which moves along with the sheet of media under the one or more print heads.

Abstract: Nozzles for an additive manufacturing device and methods for improving wettability of the nozzles are disclosed. The method may include subjecting the nozzle to a surface treatment. The surface treatment may include contacting a surface of the nozzle with one or more surface modifying agents. The surface modifying agents may include one or more of an oxidizing agent, an acid, a base, or combinations thereof. The one or more surface modifying agents may increase an oxygen content of the surface of the nozzle. An inner surface of the nozzle may have a water contact angle of greater than 1° and less than about 90°. The inner surface of the nozzle may be free or substantially free of a coating.

Abstract: An aqueous ink printer includes a moisture applicator that applies moisture to a side of a substrate that is opposite a side that bears or will bear an ink image. The moisture applicator includes a switching network that is configured to independently and selectively bias the tile segments electrically. The tile segments contiguously cover a surface of the roller. As the switching network is operated to electrically bias the tile segments using data corresponding to the ink image, they transition from being hydrophobic to hydrophilic so the electrically-biased hydrophilic tile segments attract moisture from water in a trough or from water vapor produced by an ultrasonic transducer in the trough. The moisture is carried by the electrically-biased tile segments to the substrate at areas where the amount of ink in a portion of the substrate on the other side of the substrate exceeds a predetermined ink coverage threshold.
