An improved transparent lubricating oil composition, e.g. useful as a high severity metal cutting oil, and a method of metal working using said composition, the composition comprising a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity; a minor, effective amount of at least one sulfur-containing compound; and a minor effective amount of elemental sulfur; both the sulfur-containing compound and the sulfur being present in amounts to be soluble in the composition and the combination of sulfur-containing compound and elemental sulfur being present in an amount effective to improve the extreme pressure properties of the composition.

L'alliage est à base de fer, de molybdène et de soufre. Sa composition est comprise entre fer, 8,0% à 26,6%, Molybdène: 41,0% à 62,5%, soufre: 23,3% à 40.5% et se trouve située dans la zone hexagonale ABCDEF du diagramme ternaire fer-molybdène-soufre. De préférence l'alliage comporte au moins une phase dispersée telle que la composition FeMo 2 S 4 dans une matrice cristalline répondant à la composition Fe x Mo 3-y S 4 dans laquelle x et y sont inférieurs à 1. Applications: alliages antifriction à très faible coefficient de frottement.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant composition for metalworking that can simultaneously offer high load resistance performance and exceptional cleaning properties without requiring a chlorine-based oil to be used, and can be used under severe lubricating conditions such as steel pipe expansion processing.SOLUTION: A lubricant composition for metalworking contains (a) a base oil, (b) a metal sulfonate, (c) an active polysulfide, (d) a fatty acid partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol, and (e) a nonionic surfactant, and has a kinematic viscosity at 40°C of 50 to 1,000 mm/s.

A manufacturing method for providing a low-friction surface comprises providing (210) of a mechanical element. A tool is mechanically rubbed (212) against a surface of the mechanical element. A process liquid is provided (214) to a contact area between the mechanical element and the tool. The process liquid comprises a first element that is a refractory metal and a second element that is a chalcogen. The first and second elements are provided in a liquid substance. The mechanical rubbing is performed with a contact pressure that is between 1% and 100% of an ultimate strength of the mechanical element. The mechanical rubbing thereby causes a combined burnishing of the surface of the mechanical element and a deposition of a tribofilm on the surface of the mechanical element. The tribofilm comprises the first element and the second element.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grease composition which is excellent in long-term durability and prevents wear and friction on a lubricating surface under a high load or under the risk of sliding movement, a preparation method whereby the proportion of an extreme-pressure agent to be added to the grease composition can be easily determined, and an antifriction bearing filled with the grease composition. SOLUTION: The grease composition is prepared by adding a thickener and an extreme-pressure agent containing sulfur within its molecular structure to a base oil. The extreme-pressure agent is added so that the product of the active sulfur content (mgS/g) in the extreme-pressure agent and the amount (wt.%) of the extreme-pressure agent added to the grease composition becomes 3-13.
