A water-based, neutral or basic metal working fluid containing a corrosion inhibitor, a lubricant and a microbially active amount of at least one alkanolamine compound of general formula (I), wherein R is an acyclic hydrocarbon group having 8-14 carbon atoms, A is a hydroxyalkyl group having 2-4 carbon atoms and X is hydrogen or the group A, where A is as stated above, and a metal working process using said metal working fluid.

Abstract:
Lubricating solutions are used on conveying systems in the beverage industry during the filling of containers with beverages. Lubricating compositions of the present invention, especially those designed for use in beverage conveying systems for contained beverages, comprise at least the following components: a) an alkyl alkoxylated (e.g., ethoxylated or propoxylated, preferably ethoxylated) phosphate ester, b) aryl (e.g., aromatic, such as phenol) alkoxylated (e.g., ethoxylated or propoxylated) phosphate ester, c) an aromatic or linear quaternary ammonium antimicrobial agent, and d) a liquid carrier, such as water. These lubricating solutions are capable of providing good lubricity and antimicrobial activity over a prolonged time.

A device for preparing pipe segments for joining with mechanical pipe fittings in a piping network is disclosed. The device has a fixed support with support surfaces engageable with the pipe segment, and a movable support facing the fixed support, on which to ols (54), such as grooving rolls (24), chamfering rolls (44), marking rolls (36) and cutting blades (50) are rotatably mounted. T he tools engage the outer surface of the pipe to form a circumferential groove, a marking pattern, a chamfer or a cut through the pipe when the movable support is moved toward the fixed support. A collar or cup having a circumferential side wall sized to receive the pipe is mounted on the fixed support adjacent to the support surfaces and radially reinforces the pipe to prevent it from collapsing or going out of round during groove formation.

Waterborne lubricants comprising: (A) water-soluble inorganic salt; (B) homogeneously dispersed solid lubricant; (C) at least one homogeneously emulsified substance selected from mineral oils, animal and plant oils and fats, and synthetic oils; (D) surfactant; and (E) water, in which the weight ratio (B)/(A) is from 0.05:1 to 2:1 and the weight ratio {C/(A + B)} is from 0.05:1 to 1:1, provide a one-step, highly lubricating waterborne lubricant for use in the cold plastic working of metals. This waterborne lubricant can replace the conversion coating treatment (phosphate, oxalate, etc.) + reactive soap treatment combined lubrication system now in general use and is free of the environmental issues associated with the combined lubrication system, provides for facile coating removal, and is not subject to the decline in seizure resistance caused by nonuniform add-on when large numbers of workpieces are treated together by immersion.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a lubricating composition, in particular for swaging, consisting of a suspension in water of a mixture of phospholipids and an organic or mineral basic compound. For example, the composition contains 80 wt.% water, 10 wt.% phospholipids brought in the form of soja bean lecithin, and 10 wt.% of calcium hydroxide or stearylamine as basic compound. Among other advantages the lubricant can be eliminated by means of an aqueous solvent, and is easily biodegradable.
