High dropping-point lithium-complex grease composition naving improved anti-noise properties, comprising a lubricating oil and the following components:
(a) at least one lithium soap selected from the group consisting of the lithium salts of C 10 to C 34 fatty acids and C 12 to C 24 hydroxy fatty acids, (b) at least one lithium salt selected from the group consisting of the dilithium salts of C 4 to C 12 aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, the lithium salts of boric acids, and the lithium salts of aromatic hydroxy carboxylic acids, and (c) a high-molecular viscosity-index improver, and/or succinimide-type dispersant and/or metal salt detergent.

Asbestiform crystalline calcium M phosphate, where M is sodium or lithium, typically having a length to average diameter ratio of at least 5:1, can be prepared by forming a melt of a source of oxygen, calcium, phosphorus and M having a mole ratio of about 15 percent to about 30 percent M 2 0, about 48 percent to about 60 percent P 2 O 5 and about 20 percent to about 37 percent CaO, cooling the melt within the range of about 500°C. to about 750°C. for a sufficient time to permit blocks of calcium M phosphate to form, and fiberizing the blocks into the asbestiform crystals. Such asbestiform crystalline calcium M phosphates are useful to prepare composites of organic polymeric materials.

Adducts of clay, especially of the smectite variety, most especially bentonite, are prepared with an effective amount of at least one activated mixed metal oxide or oxy-hydroxide (AHMMO) formed by dehydrating hydrotalcite or a mixture comprising magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide, or a crystalline mixed metal hydroxide conforming substantially to the formula LimDdT(OH)¿(m+2d+3+n.a)(A?n)a.xH2O where m is zero to one, D is a divalent metal, d is from zero to 4, T is a trivalent metal, A represents at least one anion or negative-valence radical of valence n, where n is 1 or more, (m+2d+3+n.a) is equal to or greater than 3, (m+d) is greater than zero, and xH2O represents excess waters of hydration. These adducts are useful, e.g., in drilling muds and in viscosity modification of a wide variety of fluids.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Vorbehandlung der Verbindungselemente einer gasdichten Muffen-Rohrverbindung mit metallischem Dichtsitz und Stoßschulter zum mehrfachen Verschrauben von aus hochlegiertem Stahl hergestellten Futter-(Casing) und Förderrohren (Tubing) für die Erdöl- und Erdgasindustrie, bei dem der Dichtungs- und Gewindebereich der Muffe mit einem metallischen Überzug versehen und vor dem Verschrauben auf den gereinigten Dichtungs- und Gewindebereichen der Verbindungselemente ein Schmiermittel aufgetragen wird. Um eine einfache Vorbehandlung der Verbindungselemente einer gasdichten Muffen-Rohrverbindung anzugeben, mit der bei hochlegierten austenitischen Stählen und beu austenitischen Werkstoffen auf Nockelbasis eine Mehfachverschraubung reproduzierbar sichergestellt ist, wird vorgeschlagen, daß für Verbindungselemente aus austenitischen Stählen mit Chrom- und Nickelgehalten größer 20 Gew% und Molybdängehalten größer 2,5 Gew% sowie aus austenitischen Werkstoffen mit Nickelgehalten größer 50 Gew% und Chrom- und Molybdängehalten größer 10 Gew% vor dem Verschrauben eine an sich bekannte metallfreie Paste auf Keramikbasis als Schmiermittel auf die Muffe und auf die blanken Zapfen der zu verbindenden Rohre aufgetragen wird.

A lubricating grease having a high dropping point, good stability against oxidation and long life contains a thickener comprising essentially the three components: lithium soap of C12-24 hydroxy fatty acid; lithium phosphate salt produced from phosphoric or phosphorous acid ester and dilithium borate. The amounts of hydroxy fatty acid and phosphoric or phosphorous acid ester are 3-100 parts by weight and 0.05-15 parts by weight per part by weight of boric acid respectively.
