    Abstract: The invention relates to a regulating valve, which is attachable in particular in a bore, executed with a female thread, of a hydraulic door closer. The regulating valve has a body adjoined by a regulating area. The regulating valve also has a thread provided with an anti-rotation element. The thread, including the anti-rotation element, being screwed into the female thread of the bore. In order to provide a regulating valve of a simple design, in which any unwanted adjustment of the regulating valve during operation is excluded, the anti-rotation element of the regulating valve has a plastic material layer at the thread flanks of the thread. The plastic material layer cooperates with the female thread of the door closer.

    Abstract: An improved door closer is provided which has a back checking arrangement including a loosely held resilient cushion bar which is engaged by a metallic shield abutting sliding cam plates during a final few degrees of opening of a door to provide an increasing resistance against further opening of the door. The shield preferably engages the cushion bar approximately 4.degree. prior to a normal full open position of the door. Selective thickness of the cushion bar provides either a 90.degree. full open position of the door or a 150.degree. full open position of the door without additional adjustment.

    Abstract: A valve for adjusting the closing speed of a door closer includes a generally cylindrical valve member having a tubular portion and a solid portion. The valve member is received with sliding contact in a blind-end bore of a valve body. The wall of the tubular portion of the valve member has an opening which is positionable into communication with an inlet conduit provided in the valve body in such a way that an axial adjustment of the valve member changes the cross-sectional area of the passage created between the inlet conduit and the opening. A body of elastic foam material with closed-wall cells is arranged in the interior of the tubular portion and is placed across the opening. In operation, fluid flowing through the valve applies pressure to the body and presses it away from the opening, so that the fluid can flow between the wall of the tubular portion and the body of elastic foam material without creating a hissing sound.

    Abstract: An automatic door closer constructed for releasably holding a door in a predetermined partly open position mainly comprises a piston arranged in a cylinder bore of a housing and operatively connected to a closer shaft mounted in the housing turnable about an axis substantially normal to that of the cylindrical bore so that the piston will be reciprocated in the bore during turning of a door connected to the closer shaft. The piston divides the bore in the housing in two compartments filled with fluid and a coil compression spring in one of the compartments biases the piston to an end position corresponding to the closed position of the door. The piston is provided with two passages therethrough, in one of which a one-way valve is arranged permitting flow of fluid only from the one compartment into the other during movement of the piston in door opening direction. The other passage is closed when the door reaches a predetermined partly open position preventing thereby fluid flow from the other compartment into the one compartment so that the door is held in this partly open position. The elements for closing the other passage comprise a valve member of a holding valve biased by a spring to a closed position so that the door may be moved in closing direction from the partly open position in which it is held only by application of an outer force applied thereto overcoming the biasing force of the spring acting on the valve member.
