Abstract:
Although modern diesel fuel formulations are intended to reduce emissions of diesel engines, at least some of those modern fuels tend to have relatively low lubricity levels. The control valve assemblies described herein help to minimize any increased wear that would otherwise result from the use of such low lubricity fuels by providing a valve element, a valve guide, and an insert. The valve element is received within the valve guide and is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The insert forms a first sealed interface and a second sealed interface with the valve element and the valve guide. When the valve element is in the closed position, both of the first sealed interface and the second sealed interface are engaged. When the valve element is in the open position, only one of the first sealed interface and the second sealed interface is engaged.
Abstract:
A refrigerant compressor includes a compression unit having a roller and a vane for compressing refrigerant. The vane has a film having first to fourth layers on its metallic base member. The first layer is made of chromium. The second layer is made of chromium and tungsten-carbide. The third layer is made of metal-containing amorphous-carbon containing at least tungsten or tungsten-carbide. The fourth layer is made of non-metal-containing amorphous-carbon containing carbon and hydrogen. In the second layer, chromium content-rate on a first-layer side is larger than on a third-layer side, and tungsten-carbide content-rate on the third-layer side is larger than on the first-layer side. In the third layer, content-rate of the at least tungsten or tungsten-carbide on a second-layer side is larger than on a fourth-layer side. The roller with which an end-edge of the vane slidably-contacts is made of flake graphite cast iron containing molybdenum, nickel and chromium.
Abstract:
A piston ring for use at temperatures above 350° F. at pressures greater than or equal to about 2000 psi, comprising a gap having a gap width about 1.4 to about 2.0 times greater than a thickness of the piston ring; a height about 4.5 to about 6.4 times larger than the thickness, and a leading edge characterized by an arc having a radius of curvature of less than or equal to about 4 times the height. The piston ring may be formed of a material comprising cobalt, chromium, tungsten, and carbon. A gas compressor and method of sealing a piston using the above piston ring is also provided for.
Abstract:
A surface of aluminum alloy or iron alloy coated, on at least a part, with a lead-free copper-based coating layer comprising, by weight, 0.2–15% bismuth, and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of 5–40% nickel, 1–20% chromium, 1–20% iron, and 1–10% cobalt, the balance being copper which is more than 55%. The surface may be of a swashplate used in swashplate type compressors.
Abstract:
A circular disc shape case 11 includes a motor rotor chamber 12, a bearing chamber 13 and a gear chamber 14 piled sequentially and being communicated with each other. A suction port 15 is connected to the motor rotor chamber 12, and a discharge port 16 is connected to the gear chamber 14, which communicate with outside respectively. A rotating shaft 18 having an end positioned in the motor rotor chamber 13 and the other end extending to the gear chamber 14. A rotor 22 is fixed around the rotation shaft 18 in the motor rotor chamber 13. A first bearing 19 is provided for supporting the end of the rotating shaft 18 in radial and thrust directions. A second bearing 20 is provided in the bearing chamber 13 for supporting an intermediate portion of the rotating shaft 18 in radial direction. A trochoid gear 25 is provided in the gear chamber 14, having an outer rotor 26 and an inner rotor 27, which functions as a pump, taking in a fluid through the suction port pipe 15, and discharging the fluid from the discharge port 16.
Abstract:
A ferrous cylinder liner for use in diesel engines having exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is protected from corrosive attack from the EGR environment by first final machining the inner running surface of the liner and thereafter plating the finished inner surface with a thin, non-porous, continuous coating of chromium which serves as a barrier to the EGR gases. The liner is installed and used in its as-coated condition with no post-coating finishing of the coated surface.
Abstract:
A high pressure centrifugal slurry pump in which the impellers and their associated diffusers are formed of hard chrome iron. A liquid-tight high pressure containment shell surrounds the impellers and diffusers and is radially spaced from them. The resulting space between the array of impellers and diffusers and the containment shell is in fluid communication with the interiors of the impellers and diffusers, preferably through a channel located between the last diffuser of the pump and the end wall at the high pressure end of the pumping chamber.
Abstract:
In an internal combustion engine, a piston has forged sections made of steel, especially in the piston head area, as well as at the hubs, and areas made of light metal, especially in the area of the piston skirt. The previously used quenched and drawn steel 42CrMo4V is to be replaced with a steel that has comparable properties but is more cost effective to manufacture. This replacement steel is a precipitation hardened ferrite-perlite steel.
