Abstract: PURPOSE: A horizontally rotative upper folder cellular phone having conversion-type earpieces and a method thereof are provided to add an earpiece into an upper section of an upper folder, and to activate the corresponding earpiece of the upper folder, depending on whether the upper folder is open/shut, in order to make a call, thereby making the call with other party even when the upper folder is shut. CONSTITUTION: An opening/shutting sensor(300) senses an opening/shutting state of an upper folder. An amplifier(310) amplifies an analog signal outputted from the opening/shutting sensor(300). An A/D converter(320) converts the amplified analog signal into a digital signal. A controller(330) recognizes the converted digital signal, and activates the first earpiece(340) and the second earpiece(350) of the upper folder, depending on whether the upper folder is open/shut. The first earpiece(340) and the second earpiece(350) output received sounds. If the upper folder is open, the first earpiece(340) located in a lower section of the upper folder is activated. If the upper folder is shut, the second earpiece(350) located in an upper section of the upper folder is activated.
