    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image reader having a first reference member for determining a reading reference position in main scanning direction and sub-scanning direction of a document.
    SOLUTION: The image reader includes a frame 39. An edge of the frame 39 extends along the main scanning direction of the document and comes into contact with the sub-scanning direction between a first transparent member 31 at a fixed reading section and a second transparent member 32 at a conveying/reading section. In a document-placing area of the first transparent member 31, one intersection near the frame 39 between the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction is set as a reference point 40 for aligning the corner of the document. In a non-document playcing area 42, a first reference member 43 is arranged on a diagonal position farthest from the reference point 40.
