Cow-milkers. - A cannula or teat nipple, 1 for use in milking animals, of the kind having openings 2 in the wall near the top closed end and a widening or bulged part 4 near the bottom end for securing the nipple in the teat, the nipple having a flanged lower open end 3 and being inserted in the teat by the use of a rigid rod, is characterized by being formed solely of a tube of comparatively soft flexible material with smooth outer surface. The channel in the nipple widens with the bulging.

Abstract: 315,353. Aas, N. July 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Cow-milkers.-A cow-teat cannula comprising a collar, which limits the inward movemnt of the cannula into the teat, and a swelling or enlarged part on the body, which offers resistance to the extraction of the cannula from the teat, is provided with means for adjusting the swelling relatively to the collar. The cannula may consist of a swelled exterior part 1 within which is disposed an axially adjustable tube 2 carrying the collar 3; the inner screw-threaded end of the tube is formed with slots 7 which can be made to coincide with the openings 5 of the outer part, or can be turned away from these openings. Alternatively, the tube may be a friction fit within the swelled part of the cannula. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also further modifications wherein the tube passes entirely through the swelled part which is bored through from end to end. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.

Cow-milkers.-In that kind of milking-apparatus wherein a thin tube 1 of non-corrosive material is adapted to be introduced into an udder teat to release the sphincter so that the milk runs out through the tube and away through a flexible pipe to a collecting vessel in convenient position, the tube is formed at its upper end with an enlargement 1 which facilitates its introduction and also serves to hold it in place during use. The milk from a set of tubes is delivered to a funnel 2 which is suspended under the udder by straps passing over the animal's haunches and is connected to a flexible pipe 5 leading to the collecting vessel.

Abstract: A method and apparatus enabling an early detection of abnormal changes in milk characteristics during milking is disclosed. A control unit that controls a two-channel pulsation device is provided to create two short periods of time during milking, each period typically lasting a few seconds. Within the first period of time, milk characteristics and flow rate during milking are measured from only a first half of the udder by temporarily stopping the milk flow from a second half of the udder. This measuring procedure is then alternately repeated within the second period of time for the second half. The control unit is provided for analyzing measurements of the milk characteristics in real-time, while controlling the operation of the two channels separately accordingly.
