    Abstract: 15,213. Preston, W. R., and Hendrie, D. A. July 18. Safety valves.-The melting of a fusible plug in the.crown of the fire-box of a steam boiler causes a safety-valve to open and so prevents excessive discharge of steam and water on to the fire &c. The head g of a rod f is embedded in the fusible plug a, which is fitted in the crown of the fire-box in a brass casing b having a hole c therein. The rod f passes through a stuffing-box h mounted on the boiler shell, and is connected at its outer end to a safety-valve m. This valve has a tapering recess o to receive a pin p in one with, or in contact with, a lever q pivoted at r and guided by the member s. The rod f passes through a hole t in the lever q, and is provided at its outer end with a washer u, nut v, and a lock-nut w to secure the coiled spring x, which regulates the blow-off pressure. The casing b may be provided with a seating y, Fig. 2, and the end of the rod f is made with a valve face z to fit the seating. The latter is formed on a ring 1 screwed into the casing and of such diameter as to leave a space 2 round the rod f. When the plug melts, the valve z rises and prevents water from rushing into the fire-box, but allows the safety-valve m to open.

    Abstract: A forklift tine covering device has a rigid fore portion 5, a tine attachment mechanism 3 and a resiliently deformable support portion 12, which may be a compression spring. The support portion is arranged to enable the fore portion to move with respect to the mechanism and tine in use absorb impact on the fore portion. The fore portion may be arcuate and have a resiliently deformable surface 1. The tine attachment mechanism may have a sleeve 14 made from mild steel and a threaded part with a knob 13 to screw down on to the tine. A pair of devices may have a connecting means such a lanyard or chain to keep them together.

    Abstract: An accessory suitable for car seat belt buckles comprises a sleeve 2 of flexible material, e.g. leather, adapted to be slid over a first part of a buckle 32 and means 16,18 connected to the sleeve for releasably engaging a second part of the buckle 36. When in place the sleeve denies access to the release mechanism 34 of the buckle, thus preventing accidental release of the buckle. The sleeve is preferably formed from a single flap of material which has its free ends sown together. The sleeve may be formed with a relatively stiff inflexible outer part and a relatively elastic inner part. The means for releasably engaging the second part of the buckle may be in the form two strap parts 16,18 which fold around the second buckle part and are fastened to one another by hook and loop fastening tape.
