Abstract:
A surface active agent comprising an arylated methyl ester of a fatty acid, or mixture of fatty acids, derived from biodiesel or a triglyceride source is disclosed. The fatty acid mixture is condensed to methyl esters and alkylated with aromatic substituents under Friedel-Crafts conditions. The alkylated methyl esters may be alkoxylated using a catalyst derived from fatty acids, alkaline earth salts, and strong acids. The resulting nonionic surfactant may also be sulfonated to produce one class of anionic surfactants. The alkylated methyl esters may also be directly sulfonated to produce another class of anionic surfactants.
Abstract:
Lignocellulosic composites are made by pressing a mixture of a particulate lignocellulosic material with polymeric MDI, in the presence of a fatty amine ethoxylate anti-masking agent.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions are provided for forming ester based compositions. The ester based compositions may be used in consumer products. In one aspect, a method is provided for producing acyl alkylisethionate esters by the esterification of a sulfonate composition having two or more sulfonate isomers with fatty acid(s). In another aspect, a method is provided for forming an ester based composition including a blend of acyl alkylisethionate and acylisethionate esters.
Abstract:
Provided herein are compositions useful as detergents in cleaning a wide variety of substrates, including hard surfaces and laundry. The compositions contain a water-soluble polymer, which is a co-polymer between a polymerizable amide and a second, ethylenically-unsaturated monomer. The polymerizable amide itself is prepared from an amine-capped, alkoxylated alcohol by reaction with maleic acid anhydride. Compositions according to the invention show enhanced cleaning performance and beneficial anti-redeposition properties.
Abstract:
A heat sink is for an integrally fused low-voltage power air circuit breaker including a line terminal and electrical bus work coupled to a current limiter. The line terminal, electrical bus work, and current limiter contribute to the formation of a thermal dam. The heat sink includes a heat exchanger structured to be coupled to the line terminal at or about the current limiter in order to expel heat from the thermal dam. The heat exchanger comprises at least one conductive member having a first end, a second end, and a plurality of bends therebetween. The heat exchanger includes heat reduction features, such as, for example, two conductive members having a number of air gaps therebetween to facilitate heat convection, a dark coating to expel heat, materials having a high thermal conductivity, and surface-enlarging mechanisms such as fins, flanges and apertures.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a fluorine-containing mordenite catalyst and use thereof in the manufacture of alkylbenzene (LAB) by alkylation of benzene with an olefin. The olefin may have from about 10 to 14 carbons. The fluorine-containing mordenite is prepared typically by treatment with an aqueous hydrogen fluoride solution. The benzene alkylation may be conducted using reactive distillation. This invention is also directed to a process for production of LAB having a high 2-phenyl isomer content by use of the fluorine-containing mordenite in conjunction with a conventional solid LAB alkylation catalyst. The two catalysts may be used in a mixed catalyst bed or may be packed in series, with the relative proportions being adjusted to provide a desired 2-phenyl isomer content of in the final product.
Abstract:
Anionic surfactant compositions containing alkoxylated amines and having enhanced detergent performance. The compositions may be formulated with anionic surfactants such as alkylbenzene sulfonates having cations that may be exchanged with, for example, ethoxylated amine and/or ethoxylated ether amine to form a salt.
Abstract:
The invention is high temperature emulsion composition comprising borax and a substantially water-insoluble polymer prepared by aqueous suspension polymerizing a blend of monomers, said blend comprising a plasticizing amount by weight of at least one plasticizing alkyl acrylate monomer, a hardening amount by weight of at least one hardening alkyl acrylate monomer and a crosslinking amount by weight of at least one multi-ethylenically unsaturated monomer, in an aqueous suspension comprising a water-soluble polymer component comprising at least one acrylic polymer having carboxylate functionality, its method of use and coated substrates made therewith.
Abstract:
This invention concerns a method for the treatment of waste-water. This method includes reacting a polyamine and a multifunctional epoxide in waste-water composition that initially is in the form of an emulsion to form a reaction product that causes the emulsion to break into a water phase and an oil phase. The oil phase and water phase may thereafter be physically separated from one another as by dissolved air flotation or chemical precipitation.
