    Abstract: PURPOSE: To test the floating characteristic of a disk drive by writing data on a rotary magnetic disk at a prescribed frequency by supplying writing signals to a readout/write transducer and extracting the signal caused by the disturbance of an air bearing from reproduced signals. CONSTITUTION: A disk drive device 10 stores data and extracts data on and from a magnetic disk 12. A test circuit 24 supplies writing signals and the signals are written on the disk 12 at a prescribed frequency through a readout/ write transducer 16. The circuit 24 detects a defect on the surface 12A of the disk 12 during the reproduction of the written signals and indicates the defect as the disturbance of an air bearing. The circuit 12 detects the disturbance and supplies the disturbance to a disk defect mapping device 26 as a disturbance signal and the device 26 discriminates a real error from noise and physically indicates the error occurring spot on the disk 12 by mapping the error.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To simplify mounting semiassemblies on a housing base by mounting head and disc semiassemblies on head and disc fixing members. CONSTITUTION: When a head driver semiassembly 14 and a disc semiassembly 18 for a disc driver are assembled in a housing base, the head semiassembly 14 is first mounted on a head fixing member 12. The disc semiassembly 18 is mounted on a disc fixing member 16 arranged in almost clearance relation to the head fixing member 12. The head and disc semiassemblies 14, 18 are matched to each other and the head and disc fixing members 12, 16 are arranged at mutually accurate fixed positions to accurately mount these semiassemblies 12, 16 on the housing base.

CONSTITUTION: A D-type FF-L7 operates as a two-position shift register, and its Q and Q bar outputs enable separate edge forming circuits L3 and L6. As a result, each channel. 50 and 52 synchronizes with an asynchronous data signal and alternates data pulse ASYN of a channel 11. The channel 11 is enabled and stabilizes a clock signal CLOCK before it is processed by the channel 11. As a result, an unstable state of any channel is stabilized before the channel 11 is called and an asynchronous pulse is detected again.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce noises by providing a flier in which an inactive transducer is retreated from a flying surface by a sufficient distance. CONSTITUTION: A flier main body 10 is made of a material such as a Ni-Al-Mg alloy and formed to fly on the upper side of a disk surface immediately above skies 17 and 18 in a direction 19. Transducers 11 and 12 for reading from or writing in a flying magnetic medium (not shown) are provided in a back surface 15. One of the two transducers 11 and 12, for instance the transducer 11, is made functional, connected to a circuit for sending a current or a voltage and for interpretation via a lead 13 connected to a related pad 13p and servo information is read. The other transducer 12 is connected to a circuit for sending a current or a voltage via a lead 14 connected to a pad 14p, but since the transducer 12 is pulled back from a flying surface by a sufficient distance, a servo disk is not read by a strength larger than a peripheral noise and the transducer is made inactive.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To quickly realize error correction for a magnetic recorder including a disk drive with a simple circuit by using remainder of dividing an encoded code word by the generating polynomial and seeking for error value and location in memory. CONSTITUTION: Data is serially inputted to an error correction circuit via an I/O interface 12, and serial write data is inputted to a seriating circuit/ paralleling circuit (SERDES) 14 through a multiplexer 26 and parallelly outputted to a latch 16 under the control of a write clock through a multiplexer 44 and connected to a FIFO buffer 18 and a Reed-Solomon ECC encoder/decoder 30. Remainder of dividing a data symbol of a data segment by generating polynomial is outputted from the encoder/decoder 30 to a PISO 28, added to a data segment that is recorded in a disk, both error location and value are singly determined by the remainder and syndrome. Thereby, on-the-fly error correction can fast be executed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To quicken assembling process by arranging both magnets in a dual magnet assembly simultaneously on a pole piece through cam action at the forward end of a member. CONSTITUTION: A magnet 10 constitutes a block having a pair of flat side faces 17, 18 and first and second pairs of external angles 11, 12 and 13, 14 wherein the external angles 11-14 define lines 15, 16 intersecting or touching each other. In order to arrange the pair of magnets 10 correctly on a pole piece 20, a subbase 44 having four posts 46 is included and the remaining part of the unit is supported thereon. A base 49 is supported on the end of the post 46 while spaced apart from the subbase 44 and the magnet 10 is fixed to a magnet piece 20 in the base 49. Two brackets 48 support a magnet pusher 42 and provided with a unit 40, e.g. a cylinder. The pusher 42 is operated with compressed air being controlled through a valve 72 and an anvil 43 enters into an adjacent trench 30. A magnet stopper 52 projects into a channel 50 to be held in place.
