Abstract: 873,349. Bottle carriers. BRADSTREET & SONS Ltd., E. J., and BURKE, P. E. Nov. 5, 1957 [May 10, 1957], No. 14984/57. Class 18. A cardboard carrier carton for bottles or the like is folded up from an elongated creased blank to form a base 6 provided with upright partition panels 7 which divide it lengthways into two, sides 5 and marginal bent-up end walls 10. In one embodiment, a blank scored and punched as in Fig. 4 is bent to form the carrier shown in Fig. 3, the sides 5 being wire stitched together near finger holes 11, and the partition panels 7 being stitched together. The holes 11 form a finger grip, holes 12 allow bottle necks to protrude while holes 13 allow inspection of the labels. In another embodiment, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), extra crease lines are incorporated so that portions of the sides form a roof (parallel to the base 6) from which extends upwardly at rightangles the hand grip area; the panels 7 are elongated to extend between the two handgrip portions, and the holes 12 and 13 are eliminated. In both embodiments, creases 8 and 9 define marginal portions of the base which are bent up to form end walls or guards to prevent dislodgment of the bottles.

Abstract: 4926. Trainor, P. E. March 4. Filing papers &c. -In a clip, file, or other holder for letters, invoices, &c., an eye a , Fig, 9, is provided upon one of the coacting members a , and the other member a is furnished with a suspension hook a', which may be integral with the member or riveted, soldered, &c., or, as shown, detachably fastened thereto ; or an eye or an open-ended or other slot may be formed in the hook. The end a of the hook a' may be concave, chisel-shaped, serrated, or roughened, or it may be provided with spikes. The hook a may be broader than the member a , but in the form of clip shown in Fig. 9, the hook a' is made of the same breadth as the member a when formed integral therewith, to enable it to be passed through the opening in the spring a . When applied to a back-board a, Fig. 14, the hook a' and eye a may be formed at opposite ends of a metal strip a , either integrally or, according to the Provisional Specification, in two parts.

Abstract: 17,526. Trainor, P. E. July 31. Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.-In an electricallypropelled vehicle or boat, the primemover drives a dynamo which is electrically connected through switches to a series of accumulator batteries arranged so that some are being charged while others are discharging into an electromotor driving the vehicle &c. Fig. 2 shows the invention as applied to a motor-car, Fig. 3 is a diagram of the electrical connexions, Fig. 5 is a detail view of a switch, Fig. 6 shows a device for automatically connecting an auxiliary motor to the dynamo, and Fig. 8 shows the invention applied to a boat. The explosion engine b drives through a disconnectible clutch a dynamo c which supplies current to the storage batteries d, d'. The motor e drives the wheels through a differential gear and side chains. The leads from the dynamo pass through a switch c' having two separately-movable arms, so that either or both of the batteries may be put in circuit. 'The motor e is connected to the batteries through the switch e' having a two-armed switch lever e , e , Fig. 5, so that either of the batteries may be used to drive the motor. An independent arm e is also provided to allow both batteries to be used together. When the vehicle is running downhill, the motor e may be used to generate electricity and to supply the batteries, or the motor e may be connected by clutches and belt gearing g to a transverse shaft driving the dynamo c through bevel-gearing. The clutches and belt gear may also be used for driving the vehicle directly from the explosion engine. The motor is regulated by an ordinary controller arranged at the foot of the steering-pillar. On the differential shaft e', or other suitable part, is arranged a governor f Fig. 6, connected by links to a clutch b , so that when the vehicle is at rest the explosion engine b is coupled to the dynamo c. The clutch can also be put into gear by a lever f . An auxiliary dynamo c , driven by friction gearing from the engine fly-wheel b , may be employed for charging the batteries when extra power is required. In a modification, the clutch b is operated by the two-armed switch lever e , e . When the invention is applied to motor boats, as shown in Fig. 8, the electromotor c is mounted directly on the propeller shaft.

Abstract: 358,433. Television. MALONEY, P. E., 9. Main Street, Dundrum, Co. Dublin. July 2, 1930, No. 20050. [Class 40 (iii).] Two or more zones Z3, Z , Fig. 10, of a rotating scanning member D with apertures on a spiral or helical curve, are simultaneously employed for transmitting or receiving a single object O, or two or more of the zones Z , Z , Fig. 3, not near opposite ends of a diameter, are used for transmitting and receiving, to obtain duplex working. The rotating member may be in the form of a drum, Fig 2 (not shown). An object O is scanned by the zone Z of the disc D and the corresponding image I is synthesized by the zone Z of the disc D . An object O is simultaneously scanned and its image I synthesized by the zones Z . According to modifications : reversal of the images is prevented by turning the disc D back to front as compared with the disc D, Fig. 4 (not shown); to obtain correct inclination of the image to the vertical the positions of the light-sensitive cell L and the variable light source E are interchanged by pivoting them about an intermediate axis, Fig. 5 (not shown), by using one cell and two light sources and moving them circumferentially, Fig. 6 (not shown), or by optical means, Fig. 7 (not shown) ; the light source is on the same side of the scanning disc as the observer, Fig. 8 (not shown). Stereoscopic reproduction is obtained by using two zones to scan two views of the object, Fig. 9 (not shown). For colour reproduction coloured filters, or cells sensitive to, and sources emitting, single colours are employed in conjunction with a plurality of zones. To transmit two areas of the object 0 simultaneously, the light from the object is divided by mirrors 10, 11 to opposite zones Z , Z and reconverted into one beam at the receiver by similar mirrors. According to modifications : the whole area of revolution of the disc is used, Fig. 11 (not shown) ; one zone is used for monitoring, Fig. 12 (not shown). Specifications 280,630, 295,653, 309,965, [all in Class 40 (iii), Telegraphs, Electric], and 355,795 are referred to.
