    Abstract: A divan bed base (10) for an articulated bed comprises a divan frame (12, 14) and a mattress support including at least one mattress support panel (16, 20, 22) pivotally mounted with respect to the frame. Actuators (34a, 34b) are provided for pivoting the support panels to adjust the geometry of the bed. In preferred embodiments at least one of the mattress support panels (16, 20) is/are pivotally connected to the frame about a respective pivot axis offset from the plane of the panel. The actuators are fixed with respect to the frame on the underside of the mattress support within the divan base.

    Abstract: One aspect of the invention provides a know down divan base for a bed where the base comprises a pair of lateral side panels (12), a pair of end panels (14) and a plurality of corner posts (16) for securing the end and side panels together to provide a generally rectangular base. Each corner post is secured in interlocking engagement with a respective end and side panel by means of at least one interlocking brace (18) extending between the adjacent end and side panels. Preferably the side and end panels are substantially non-load bearing such that the corner posts support substantially the whole of the bed independently of the panels (12, 14). The invention also comprehends an interlocking corner post and brace arrangement for use in other items of furniture, for example chairs or the like where a support structure is required.

    Abstract: A leg structure 10 has a longitudinally extending array of discrete plastics moulded segments 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 & 24 of aesthetic design, wherein each segment (e.g. 14) has two opposed and parallel flat faces 68 & 70 for parallel alignment with the faces 60 & 76 of adjacent segments. Disposed between adjacent segments are connecting collars 28, 30, 32, 34, 36 & 38 which frictionally receive spigots 62, 68, 66, 72, 74, 76 & 78 extending from the adjacent flat faces of the segments, restraining the segments from lateral displacement relative to one another. A bolt 40 extends longitudinally through the segments and the connecting collars to receive a locking nut 48, which nut 48 is tightened to compress the segments and connecting collars together and restrain them from relative longitudinal displacement.
    A method of manufacturing a leg structure 10 is described.
