PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium and a manufacturing method thereof.SOLUTION: In a magnetic recording medium 1, a thin film first magnetic layer 8 and a patterned second magnetic layer 12 are continuously provided in a multiple magnetic layer so as to improve recording density of the recording medium 1. A magnetic anisotropy coefficient of the first magnetic layer 8 is larger than that of the second magnetic layer 12. Magnetic bits 13 of the second magnetic layer 12 form circular tracks. Magnetic bits 13 of the second magnetic layer 12 have island-like shapes which are independent of each other.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 90° bent metallic waveguide with a tapered C-shaped aperture, a method of manufacturing the waveguide, an optical transmission module using the waveguide, and an HAMR (Heat Auxiliary Magnetic Recording) head adopting the waveguide.SOLUTION: In a metallic waveguide 111 composed of electrically conductive metal in which an aperture 113 to transmit light is disposed inside, the aperture comprises: bent structure between an input end 111a and an output end 111b so that an advancing direction of light is turned; and tapered structure of which width is gradually narrowed toward an output end side between a bent part and the output end. In the metallic waveguide, the aperture has a C-shaped figure by forming a ridge part 114 projected at an inside face of the metal forming the aperture.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leader pin assembly for attachment to a tape as a reference interface between a tape and an equipment for manipulating the tape, and to provide a method for making the same. SOLUTION: The leader pin assembly 10 includes a leader pin 12, an elastomer element 14, and a clip 16. The leader pin 12 is barbell-shaped, and provided with enlarged ends and at least a pair of flanges 20. Each flange 20 is spaced a distance from each enlarged end to define a pair of recesses 26 and a center section of the leader pin 12. The center section of the leader pin 12 is sized to permit the tape to be wound around the center section. The elastomer element 14 surrounds the tape. The clip 16 snugly surrounds the elastomer element 14 to keep the tape securely in a predetermined position around the center of the leader pin 12. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus by which a read/write head is precisely disposed on a spinstand. SOLUTION: The apparatus for loading the head to the spinstand has a load area for receiving at least one head to be tested. The apparatus further has a first station having a coarse adjustor arranged to provide a coarse positioning of the head. A first automation device is arranged to pickup a head from the load area and to deliver it to the coarse adjuster. The apparatus has a deck having a test station at which a head can be tested. The deck has a fine adjuster arranged to provide a second, fine positioning of the head. A second automation device is arranged to pickup a head from the first station and deliver it to the fine adjuster where the head can be subjected to a second, fine adjustment and to pickup a head from the fine adjuster and to deliver it to the test station.
