A process comprising the chloridization step wherein chlorine gas is brought into contact with metallic nickel to generate a metal chloride gas continuously and the reduction step wherein the metal chloride gas is brought into contact with a reducing gas to reduce the metal chloride continuously. According to this process, the amount of the metal chloride gas generated can be regulated by controlling the feed of chlorine gas to thereby regulate the particle diameter of metal powder accurately, which secures the constancy of the particle diameter and arbitrary selection thereof within the range of 0.1 to 1.0 mu m.

A solid catalytic component for olefin polymerization prepared by bringing a titanium halide, an aromatic dicarboxylic diester and a dialkoxymagnesium with a bulk specific gravity of at least 0.25 g/ml into contact with one another; and a catalyst containing the same. The use of the catalyst makes it possible to produce polyolefins having a high stereoregularity, a high bulk specific gravity and an excellent particle properties in good yields.

Un gaz perdu contenant du CO2 en tant que composant principal et des substances nuisibles telles que des chlorures, degage par un four de chloruration pour la production de tetrachlorure de titane ou de tetrachlorure de zirconium, est lave avec de l'eau, par exemple, dans une tour de lavage a l'eau, et l'eau est extraite du gaz perdu lave jusqu'a ce que son point de rosee soit egale ou inferieur a 5 C, ces etapes etant suivies par un traitement d'absorption du gaz dans une tour a charbon actif.
