Abstract: Process for depositing by electrografting a strong adherent polymer coating onto an electrically conductive surface comprising the step of electrochemical grafting of an active monomer for forming a primer coating P onto the surface and having as general formula: X0 (meth)acrylate wherein X is either part of a preformed polymer or is an intermediate agent for polyaddition reaction or is an anchoring group for attachment of a molecule having at least one complementary reactive group. Such process allows formation of new primer by one-step electro-grafting of a macromonomer. Such process also allows further modification of an initial electrografted polymer to increase the coating thickness by the grafting-from technique. Such process also allows to graft onto the primer coating compounds like functional polymer, peptide, protein, oligonucleotide, dyes, drugs, anti-bacterian compounds.

Abstract: A gene (cDNA) encoding a bovine myostatin protein. The nucleic acid coding sequence is identified as SEQ ID NO:1 and the protein sequence is identified as SEQ ID NO:2. A mutant gene (SEQ ID NO:3) in which the coding sequence lacks an 11-base pair consecutive sequence (SEQ ID NO:11) of the sequence encoding bovine protein having myostatin activity has been sequenced. It has been shown that cattle of the Belgian Blue breed homozygous for the mutant gene lacking myostatin activity are double-muscled. A method for determining the presence of muscular hyperplasia in a mammal is described. The method includes obtaining a sample of material containing DNA from the mammal and ascertaining whether a sequence of the DNA encoding (a) a protein having biological activity of myostatin, is present, and whether a sequence of the DNA encoding (b) an allelic protein lacking the activity of (a), is present. The absence of (a) and the presence of (b) indicates the presence of muscular hyperplasia in the mammal.

Abstract: Une méthode de préparation d'un gel organique chargé ou non en métal comprenant un mélange de benzène hydroxylé et d'aldéhyde (en particulier du résorcinol et du formaldéhyde), dans un solvant est décrite, dans laquelle la texture poreuse du gel est régulée par ajustement du pH du mélange de départ. Il est également décrit une méthode de préparation d'un matériau carboné, chargé ou non en métal et obtenu par séchage puis pyrolyse du gel organique correspondant, dont la texture poreuse est régulée selon le pH du mélange de départ. Les matériaux carboné obtenus peuvent être utilisés en catalyse chimique ou dans la fabrication d'electrode de piles à combustible.
