PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect or couple a media player and an external device. SOLUTION: A part of a contact point is exclusive use for a firewire signal, on the other hand, the other part is exclusive use for a USB signal. Also the contact point is used for ground, charging, power supply, protocol, accessory identification, audio, line input, line output, or the like. Additional contact points are used to ground a housing of a connector. The number of contact points is changed drastically. The number of contact points depends generally on a signal required for supporting a device using connectors. Further, some of contact points are used for supporting the firewire. On the other hand, the other contact points are used for supporting the USB. The minimum number of contact points corresponds to the number required for supporting the devices, and includes at least 30 contact points including firewire contact points, USB contact points, ground contact points, power supply contact points, auxiliary contact points, or the like. Methods and apparatus for applying internal features or complex mechanical structures to a surface of a metal part are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a method for creating an assembly that includes a substrate and a molded piece involves obtaining the substrate, and forming at least one binding feature on a surface of the substrate. The method also includes molding on a surface of the binding feature and the surface of the substrate. Molding on the surface of the binding feature and the surface of the substrate mechanically binds the molded piece to the substrate.

Apparatus, systems and methods for improving strength of a thin glass member for an electronic device are disclosed. In one embodiment, the glass member can have improved strength characteristics in accordance with a predetermined stress profile. The predetermined stress profile can be formed through multiple stages of chemical strengthening. The stages can, for example, have a first ion exchange stage where larger ions are exchanged into the glass member, and a second ion exchange stage where some of the larger ions are exchanged out from the glass member. In one embodiment, the glass member can pertain to a glass cover for a housing for an electronic device. The glass cover can be provided over or integrated with a display.
Abstract:
Apparatus, systems and methods for improving strength of a thin glass cover for an electronic device are disclosed. In one embodiment, the glass member can have improved strength by forming its edges with a predetermined geometry and/or by chemically strengthening the edges. Advantageously, the glass member can be not only thin but also adequately strong to limit susceptibility to damage. In one embodiment, the glass member can pertain to a glass cover for a housing for an electronic device. The glass cover can be provided over or integrated with a display, such as a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) display.
