The present invention provides a digital multimedia broadcasting transmitting apparatus, including: a pilot signal generator that is used in estimating a transmission channel in a receiving apparatus and generates a pilot signal including at least one information a; a subcarrier mapping unit that maps the pilot signal to a subcarrier corresponding thereto; and a modulating unit that modulates an output of the subcarrier mapping unit, wherein the pilot signal has a value for specific information rather than a predetermined value in the receiving apparatus.

The present invention relates to a channel encoder for an enhancement layer of a digital-multimedia-broadcasting transmitting device, a digital broadcasting transmitting device, a digital broadcasting receiving device, and an extension structure of sub-channel configuration field (FIG0/1 ) for designating a protection level of sub-channel at the enhancement layer. In a channel encoder for the enhancement layer according to the invention, the channel encoder is included in a hierarchical DMB transmitting unit that modulates a base layer transport stream and a enhancement layer transport stream for video and audio by a base layer modulation system and an enhancement layer modulation system, respectively, and performs symbol mapping of the enhancement layer according to the position of a constellation based on the base layer modulation system. Furthermore, the hierarchical DMB transmitting unit includes an energy dispersal scrambler that disperses energy of the enhancement layer transport stream, and a turbo encoder that receives a double-binary input vector corresponding to an output of the energy dispersal scrambler and encodes it by using a double-binary circular recursive systematic code.

A hierarchical modulation device modulates a plurality of first hierarchical symbols according to a first modulation method to generate a plurality of first hierarchical modulation symbols, inserts a plurality of pilot symbols into a plurality of second hierarchical symbols to generate a plurality of pilot insertion symbols, modulates a plurality of pilot insertion symbols according to a second modulation method to generate a plurality of second hierarchical modulation symbols, and maps a plurality of first hierarchical modulation symbols and the plurality of second hier archical modulation symbols in the signal space to generate a plurality of hierarchical modulation symbols. Therefore, the hierarchical modulation device can improve receiving performance of the enhancement layer without influencing the base layer.

A method and apparatus for processing enhanced media data in a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) system is provided. The apparatus for processing enhanced media data includes: a base layer processing unit configured to multiplex an elementary stream of a base layer and perform channel encoding for the multiplexed elementary stream of the base layer; an enhancement layer processing unit configured to synchronize an elementary stream of an enhancement layer with the elementary stream of the base layer and thereby multiplex the elementary stream of the enhancement layer and process the elementary stream of the enhancement layer to be transmittable via at least one of a plurality of transmission channels; and a synchronizer configured to provide the enhancement layer processing unit with synchronization information that is used for synchronizing the elementary stream of the enhancement layer with the elementary stream of the base layer.

In a terrestrial DMB, a transmitting apparatus multiplexes a plurality of service streams generated for any service to a plurality of ensembles. In this case, the same sending time data is constructed in a time stamp field of each frame for each of a plurality of ensembles. With this configuration, a plurality of transmitting apparatuses can send a plurality of transmission frames including service streams for the same service at the same point of time, and thus receiving apparatuses can actually receive a plurality of transmission frames at the same point of time.
