The present invention provides a digital multimedia broadcasting transmitting apparatus, including: a pilot signal generator that is used in estimating a transmission channel in a receiving apparatus and generates a pilot signal including at least one information a; a subcarrier mapping unit that maps the pilot signal to a subcarrier corresponding thereto; and a modulating unit that modulates an output of the subcarrier mapping unit, wherein the pilot signal has a value for specific information rather than a predetermined value in the receiving apparatus.

Disclosed is a channel estimation and equalization method and system. The method inserts a pilot signal in the time domain into a guard interval, uses a hard decision signal in the frequency domain to estimate a frequency response of the channel, and equalizes a radio channel distortion through the estimated channel value.

A method for slicing a symbol in a QAM digital demodulator, includes acquiring a digital integer value by sampling a symbol signal in an in-phase coordinate or a quadrature-phase coordinate; and extracting a symbol bit sequence in the in-phase coordinate or the quadrature-phase coordinate from a whole bit sequence of the digital integer value by using an LSB thereof. Further, a symbol slicer for detecting a QAM symbol, includes digital sampling units, each of which acquires a digital integer value by sampling a symbol signal in an in-phase coordinate or a quadrature-phase coordinate; and a symbol bit sequence extracting unit that extracts a symbol bit sequence in the in-phase coordinate or the quadrature-phase coordinate from a whole bit sequence of the digital integer value by using an LSB thereof.

Provided is a transmitting/receiving method and device for providing a conditional access broadcasting service. A transmitting method for providing a conditional access broadcasting service includes generating a control word for scrambling by encoding a conditional access subscriber's, and changing the encoded data into an entitlement control message and an entitlement management message including the data generated by classifying the conditional access subscriber and a non-subscriber by activating the data. Also, the method includes generating a final stream by multiplexing the entitlement control message, the entitlement management message, and a base layer stream for a first broadcasting service, generating a base layer frame and an enhancement layer frame based on the final stream and an enhancement layer stream for a second broadcasting service, generating a broadcasting signal by hierarchically modulating the base layer frame and the enhancement layer frame, and transmitting the broadcasting signal.

The present invention relates to a local broadcasting service providing method and device in a local broadcasting system. The local broadcasting service providing device receives a first main broadcasting signal from a terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting system, and converts the first main broadcasting signal into a second main broadcasting signal for local broadcasting. The local broadcasting service providing device generates a second local broadcasting signal by encoding the first local broadcasting signal to be broadcast, hierarchically modulates the second main broadcasting signal and the second local broadcasting signal, and transmits the signals. Ac¬ cordingly, the local broadcasting service providing device provides compatibility with terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting and a local broadcasting service in a specific area to thus provide convenience to the user.

A method and apparatus for processing enhanced media data in a Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) system is provided. The apparatus for processing enhanced media data includes: a base layer processing unit configured to multiplex an elementary stream of a base layer and perform channel encoding for the multiplexed elementary stream of the base layer; an enhancement layer processing unit configured to synchronize an elementary stream of an enhancement layer with the elementary stream of the base layer and thereby multiplex the elementary stream of the enhancement layer and process the elementary stream of the enhancement layer to be transmittable via at least one of a plurality of transmission channels; and a synchronizer configured to provide the enhancement layer processing unit with synchronization information that is used for synchronizing the elementary stream of the enhancement layer with the elementary stream of the base layer.
