PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for coordinating the time at which a mobile station performs searches for alternative systems to which a hard handoff will occur.SOLUTION: In one system, the mobile station receives a command which instructs the mobile station as to when to tune to alternative frequencies in order to search for indications of the presence of an alternative system. In the alternative system, predetermined times are defined with respect to a reference point in time that is common to both the origination base station and a mobile station. The mobile station tunes to the alternative frequencies to perform searches only during these predetermined times. In addition, the mobile station coordinates the transmission of reports which indicate the results of searches for the alternative systems such that these reports are only transmitted from the mobile station when the mobile station is tuned to the origination frequency.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for multicast service initiation in a communication system, because point-to-point cellular telephone systems do not support multicast services. SOLUTION: The method and system for multicast service notification in a cellular telephone system to enable the cellular telephone systems to provide both multicast and point-to-point services are disclosed. Several embodiments describe a signaling interaction between an access network and subscriber stations belonging to a multicast group to allow the access network to assign a channel conveying the multicast service between the access network and the subscriber stations. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast system having both a shared broadcast capability and an individual broadcast capability. SOLUTION: A subscriber-station evaluates (618, 620) whether a desired program is available from a subject base station. According to this evaluation, the subscriber-station takes steps to receive the desired program on a shared channel for reception by multiple subscriber-stations or initiate base station delivery of the desired program to the subscriber-station on an individual channel. In response to a message from a subject subscriber-station identifying a desired program, a base station either continues transmitting the desired program on a shared channel, starts transmitting the desired program on a shared channel, or sends the subject subscriber-station a channel assignment message and commences transmission of the desired program on the assigned individual channel. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for determining a power control set value. SOLUTION: A station is provided with an antenna for receiving and transmitting a plurality of signals, a receiver connected to the antenna and receiving a plurality of received signals, a controller connected to the receiver and determining a pilot reference level of a current data rate, determining a pilot reference level of a next data rate, determining a difference between the pilot reference level of the current data rate and the pilot reference level of the next data date, and adjusting a power control set value based on the difference when the next data rate is higher than the current data rate, and a transmitter connected to the controller and adjusting the power set value for transmission. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the probability of dropped calls during inter-system hard handoff in a wireless communication system. SOLUTION: In the event that a hard handoff attempt is unsuccessful, a mobile station M3 will return to an original system S1 with information used to assist in the performance of future handoff attempts. Alternatively, with no handoff attempt made, the mobile station M3 monitors a destination system S2 then returns to the original system S1 with information used to assist in subsequent handoff attempts. The information returned from monitoring consists of results of a search for one or more pilots given at offsets in a specific list provided to the mobile station by a base station or a set of offsets based upon a predetermined search algorithm. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To coordinate time required by a mobile station to search for an alternative system used for performing hard hand-off. SOLUTION: The mobile station receives a command instructing a mobile station as for tuning at an alternative frequency to search for the display of the presence of an alternative system. A predetermined time is defined with respect to a reference point of time common between a starting base station and the mobile station. The mobile station executes search only during the predetermined time synchronously with the alternative frequency. Further, the mobile station coordinates a transmission report indicating the result of searching for the alternative system so that the report can be transmitted from the mobile station when the mobile station is tuned at the starting frequency. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently manage reverse-link resources by allowing a mobile station to select between transmitting a payload at a standard power level and transmitting a smaller payload at a boosted power level. SOLUTION: The mobile station can autonomously select a QoS (quality of service) level for physical layer packets. Based on reverse-link transmission information received from a base station, the mobile station derives a reverse-link transmission guideline defining the power levels and associated payloads for at least a standard service and boosted service. The mobile station selects a reverse-link transmission power level from a plurality of power levels, including at least a standard reverse-link transmission power level associated with a standard payload size and a boosted reverse-link transmission power level associated with a boosted payload size, where the standard payload size is greater than the boosted payload size. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission power control method and apparatus that reduce hindrance (interference) in transmission to other subscribers to enable point-to-multipoint service in an infrastructure of a mobile communication system. SOLUTION: A sector 104 monitors the quality measurement standard detection results of a forward link channel, the results being fed back from a subscriber station 102 through a reverse link dedicated channel 108. Further, the sector 104 adjusts the power of a forward link shared channel according to the worst quality measurement standard. A sector 108 transmits a power control command of a reverse link dedicated channel to the subscriber station 102 on a forward link shared channel 106. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide various methods and apparatuses to initiate a point-to-point call initiated between a wireless mobile station and a remote third party while the mobile station receives shared broadcast service. SOLUTION: A wireless telephone 400 as one example of mobile stations includes: a transceiver 404; a speaker 408; a microphone 414; a user interface 410; and a manager 402 connected to them. The mobile station receives initiation of the point-to-point call to a remote station, which has been performed by an operator during reception of the broadcast content through a multi-user forward-link broadcast channel and determines call-handling preferences in response to the initiation performed by the operator, and further performs an operation including either sending a call origination message and additional message expressing a desire not to continue reception of the broadcast content or sending the call origination message and additional message expressing a desire to continue the reception of the broadcast content, according to the determination.
