Abstract:
There is disclosed the Simultaneous Addressing and Sustaining (SAS) of a surface discharge AC plasma display panel having a row scan, bulk sustain, and column data electrodes wherein at least one section of the panel is addressed while at least one other section of the panel is being simultaneously sustained. The SAS is used with techniques to reduce false contour including motion and visual artifacts. Such techniques include methods and electronic circuitry. In one embodiment, the row scan and bulk sustain electrodes of the section that is being sustained have a reference voltage which is offset from the voltages applied to the column data electrodes for the simultaneous addressing of another section such that the column data electrodes do not electrically interact with the row scan and bulk sustain electrodes.
Abstract:
A gas discharge device constructed out of one or more plasma-shells with an organic luminescent substance located on an external portion of each plasma-shell, the organic substance being excited by photons from a gas discharge within the plasma-shell. In one embodiment, the plasma-shell is made of an inorganic luminescent substance. The external organic luminescent substance may contain or be combined with an inorganic substance that may also be a luminescent substance. The plasma-shell may contain both inorganic and organic substances.
Abstract:
A process for fabricating hollow metal shells such as Be or Al filled with a selected gas such as D or T. An organic preform is coated with a slurry of organic binder and metal powder of Be or Al. The coated preform is heated to remove the preform and any organics to form a hollow shell which is then fired at an elevated temperature in a gas so as to seal the shell and capture the gas inside the sealed shell.
Abstract:
Electrode configurations for an AC or DC gas discharge plasma display panel (PDP) device having one or more substrates and a multiplicity of pixels or sub-pixels that are defined by a hollow plasma-shell filled with an ionizable gas. Plasma-shell includes plasma-disc, plasma-dome, and plasma-sphere. The invention is described with reference to a plasma-disc. The plasma-disc has at least two opposing flat sides such as a flat top and flat bottom. Two or more addressing electrodes are in electrical contact with each plasma-disc. At least one electrode is in electrical contact with a side of the plasma-disc that is not flat.
Abstract:
A syntactic foam comprising hollow metallic shells and a solid metal foam matrix. The metal foam composites show high strength, particularly in comparison to previous metal foams, while maintaining a favorable strength to density ratio. The composite metal foams can be prepared by various techniques, such as powder metallurgy and casting or aspiration casting.
Abstract:
An organic electroluminescent display system comprising at least one organic-light-emitting diode (OLED), a zener diode in series to the organic light-emitting diode, a rectification diode, and a capacitor used as a memory device. During a frame period of the display device, there are address and light emission periods. A reverse bias voltage is applied across the organic light-emitting diode during the address period to prevent metal migration into the organic layers of the OLED. Current mode data programming is used to address the display device. During the light emission period, charge previously stored in selected capacitors during the address period supplies a forward current for the OLEDs. A ramp waveform applied to the row electrode during the light emission period, forces the capacitor to discharge through the OLED and controls the forward current level. This keeps the operation of the OLEDs in their area of maximum performance.
