    Abstract: A roofing shingle (20) comprises a web (22) of roofing material configured with a first series of sealant material sites (60) and a second series of sealant material sites (62) provided on the roofing shingle (20). The web (22) of roofing material is configured with a length dimension (L) and a width dimension (W). The sealant material sites 60 of the first series are provided along a first axis (66) which is essentially parallel to the length dimension of the web. The sealant material sites (60) of the first series are discontinuous along the first axis (66) and separated from one another along the first axis by a first interval (70). The sealant material sites of the second series (62) are provided along a second axis (68) which is essentially parallel to the length dimension of the web and spaced apart from the first axis (66) with respect to the width dimension. The sealant material sites (62) of the second series are discontinuous along the second axis (68) and are separated from one another along the second axis (68) by a second interval (72), the second interval (72) being different than the first interval (70).

    Abstract: A shape molding operation is performed to form a three dimensional building panel. The operation involves providing a mold having a cavity, the cavity having dimensions essentially identical to a finished three dimensional building panel suitable for installation. The shape molding operation involves pre-heating at least one of two major internal surfaces of the mold; introducing polystyrene foam beads into the cavity; heating the polystyrene foam beads; and causing the heated polystyrene foam beads to flatten and spread against the pre-heated major internal surface of the mold, thereby forming a sealed water-repellant skin at least on a face of the three dimensional building panel. In view of the corresponding size of the mold cavity, no cutting action is required on the expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam formed therein, so that a least a building-contacting face of the resultant boards acquires the sealed water-repellant skin that is otherwise lost when forming boards from buns of the prior art. The insulated building panel is preferably formed with said building-contacting surface or face of the panel having a regular pattern of either water drainage grooves or raised protrusions. The protrusions can have various shapes, such as a quadrilateral (e.g., diamond, or rhombus) shape, a circular shape, an elliptical shape, or a triangular shape, for example.

    Abstract: A laminated building sheathing (20) comprising a rigid foam board (22) and a vapor-permeable film facer (24). The vapor-permeable film facer (24) is adhered to the rigid foam board (22) by an adhesive (26) at non-continuous adhesive locations. The film facer (24) is vapor-permeable, and an extent of non-continuity of the adhesive with respect to area of the rigid foam board is controlled to provide a desired balance between (1) sufficient vapor permeability to conduct vapor to the exterior of the sheathing and (2) a minimum surface area required to effect sufficient adhesion of the film facer to the rigid foam board.
