Abstract: A method for selecting an altitude changing phase route for an aircraft is presented. The method comprises receiving sequences of multivariate flight data from at least one prior flight, receiving a set of flight parameters for the aircraft including at least a total altitude change and a takeoff weight, and receiving a set of candidate altitude changing phase routes having candidate step profiles. For each candidate altitude changing phase route, a sequence of fuel burn quantities is predicted for the respective candidate step profile based on at least the sequences of multivariate flight data and the set of flight parameters. The fuel burn quantities are summed over the candidate altitude changing phase route to obtain an estimated fuel burn. A preferred candidate altitude changing phase route having a lowest estimated fuel burn is indicated.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for assembling a wing. Methods include suspending an upper wing panel of an aircraft beneath a shuttle, translating a rib to a position it, and placing the rib into contact with, then affixing the rib to, the upper wing panel, while suspended. Some methods include installing ribs and spars to the upper wing panel, and joining a lower wing panel to the ribs and spars, while the upper wing panel is suspended. Some methods involve joining ribs to spars (e.g., all, or some) to produce a support structure that is then affixed to the upper wing panel. Systems include a shuttle that suspends an upper wing panel, and a cart that includes supports to hold a rib, a chassis to translate the rib to a position beneath the upper wing panel, and a lifting apparatus to lift the rib into contact with the upper wing panel.

Abstract: A curing tool assembly for composite manufacturing includes a curing tool and a cover plate. The curing tool includes a tool surface that defines a resin channel. The openings are arranged to provide different flow capacity through different portions of the cover plate along the channel axis. Methods for composite manufacturing with the curing tool assembly are also disclosed.
