Abstract:
Air conditioning system for use to cool cabs of large vehicles such as locomotives, which includes a housing divided into upper and lower chambers, the upper chamber mounting the compressor and condenser and being exposed to the ambient, and the lower chamber mounting the evaporator and being exposed to the cab or compartment to be cooled. The condenser is arranged perpendicularly to the path of movement of the vehicle. A condensate tray is provided for the lower chamber to collect and prevent sloshing of the condensate from the evaporator.
Abstract:
An inline valve for a pressurized fluid system including a sleeve type closure member, a pilot valve and a control valve wherein during normal flow operation the control valve operates to open and close the sleeve type closure member and in the event of pressure reversal when the valve is open the pilot valve will cause the valve to close.
Abstract:
A combined rotary pulse generator and odometer assembly for the axle of a railway locomotive simultaneously generates a speedindicative electrical signal and digitally totalizes mileage traveled. The assembly includes a pulse generator which has a shaft coupled to the end of a locomotive axle to develop electrical pulses as the axle turns. A novel odometer assembly, mounted on the cover plate of the pulse generator, converts the rotary motion of the generator shaft to oscillating motion to drive a digital mileage counter and record accumulated mileage for the locomotive. The odometer assembly is easily converted to accommodate different sizes of drive wheels and different units of distance, and the digital accumulated mileage display is positioned for maximum legibility under poor lighting conditions.
Abstract:
A pilot valve assembly for use with a railroad switch heater that resists sooting and blowout, and includes a burner nozzle, circular in cross section, and a shield and deflector unit mounted on the burner nozzle. The shield portion of the shield and deflector unit is square in cross section and extends from the burner nozzle terminating in a flame discharge opening. A deflector portion extends over the flame discharge opening and covers about one-third of the area opening.
Abstract:
A heater for heating water including a burner having a pair of concentrically arranged porous ceramic wicks capable of permitting proper combustion of fuels and not being adversely affected by water and foreign matter.
Abstract:
A stable high-gain solid-state DC amplifier circuit comprising a low-pass filter connecting a DC supply to an input chopper (either shunt or series connected) that is AC coupled to a highgain noninverting AC amplifier; the amplifier is in turn AC coupled to an output chopper (again, either series or shunt connected) connected to a storage capacitor, with a negative feedback circuit from the storage capacitor back to the low-pass filter in the input of the input chopper. The two choppers are driven in effective phase opposition, relative to each other, so that the feedback loop is not completely closed at any instant. For improved gain, the combination of a series chopper and a shunt chopper may be used at either end, or at both ends, of the amplifier circuit.
Abstract:
Butterfly valve for controlling fluid flow in conduits, and including a butterfly coacting with a seating bore in a casing having a peripherally mounted, solid sealing ring for engagement with a seating bore, wherein the sealing ring is mounted on the butterfly for radial movement to conform to the seating bore when the valve is closed.
Abstract:
An inverter having drive change means for converting three phase operation to single phase operation where single phase power is supplied at the same rating as the rating for three phase power. A controlled drive means in a solid state static inverter for the power outputs supplies the outputs 120* out of phase for three phase operation or in phase for single phase operation.
Abstract:
Inline valve position indicator, wherein the valve includes a poppet assembly having a piston and valve closure member driven pneumatically into open position and mechanically into closed position, wherein the position indicator includes a lever extending through the valve body and mounted thereon in pivotal and sealing relation and responsive to the movement of the piston and valve closure member, and wherein the motion of the lever is transmitted externally to actuate a readout means.
Abstract:
CREW SWITCH FOR A TRAIN CAR TO ENABLE OPENING AND CLOSING OF AN INDIVIDUAL DOOR FROM EITHER A KEY OPERATED STATION LOCATED OUTSIDE THE CAR OR A KEY OPERATED STATION LOCATED INSIDE THE CAR, AND CLOSING OF A DOOR BY THE MASTER DOOR CONTROL FOLLOWING OPENING OF THAT DOOR AT A REMOTE KEY OPERATED STATION, WHEREIN A RELAY ACTUATED SWITCHING CIRCUIT IS PROVIDED.
