Abstract: A device including a speaker and a housing, in which the speaker is configured to generate sound and includes a diaphragm and the housing encloses the speaker and includes a plurality of openings within one portion of the housing. The speaker is positioned within the housing to define a front chamber between the diaphragm and the one portion, and the plurality of openings are sized to collectively generate, with the front chamber, an increased output of the device within a frequency range of an output of the speaker corresponding to an alarm tone. Also provided are methods for assembling a device including a speaker and a housing.

Abstract: An assembly including an apparatus and a device, the apparatus including a speaker configured to generate acoustic waves defining an alarm tone and a housing enclosing the speaker. The speaker is positioned within the housing such that a front chamber is between the speaker and at least one first opening of the housing, with the acoustic waves exiting through the at least one first opening. The device is coupled to the housing and includes a body having an aperture, a cavity, and at least one second opening, the cavity being positioned adjacent to the housing and configured to receive the acoustic waves through the aperture, with the acoustic waves exiting through the at least one second opening. The aperture, the cavity, and the at least one second opening are sized to collectively generate an increased output of the assembly within a frequency range of the alarm tone.

Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling a speaker. In one example, a method includes determining, based on a request to operate a speaker, a type of sound to be produced by the speaker, the request being indicative of whether operation of the speaker is for a communication session or to produce a system sound, and adjusting one or more parameters of the speaker to output (i) speech, based on the request indicating that operation of the speaker is to be for the communication session, or (ii) the system sound, based on the request indicating that the operation of the speaker is to produce the system sound. An example of the method further includes initiating operation of the speaker using the one or more parameters to produce the type of sound.
