Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to generating a wiring schema with more than one safety device sharing at least one test signal through one or more external terminal blocks when the number of terminals required by safety devices exceeds the number of available terminals of a safety controller. In an illustrative example, the method may include determining a total number of terminals A of safety devices to be connected to a safety evaluation device having a number of terminals B. If A is greater than B, the method may then include generating a wiring schema that one or more external terminal blocks may show indicia of electrical connections between an identified set of safety devices and a shared terminal of the safety evaluation device associated with that set. By using the method, the number of devices that can be connected to the safety evaluation device may be expanded.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a method of non-contact motion detection. A one-dimensional optical sensor detects motion of a target or objects on a conveyor belt through a continuous measurement of targets or objects and a real-time comparison of the pixel images captured by the one-dimensional optical sensor. In an illustrative embodiment, a one-dimensional sensor may be configured to determine motion of objects based on changes to the captured intensities of pixel images over time. The sensor may continually capture photoelectric pixel images and compare a current pixel image with a previous pixel image to determine a frame differential image value. The frame differential image value is evaluated against a predetermined threshold over a predetermined time period. Based on the evaluation, a signal is output indicating whether the objects on the conveyor belt are moving or jammed.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the technology disclosed herein relate to a sensor device. An elongate sleeve has a first end and a second end and extends along a longitudinal axis. A plurality of sensors are fixed relative to the sleeve. A first endcap is coupled to the first end, where the first endcap has an endcap body. A first axle is coupled to the endcap body, where the first axle extends along the longitudinal axis and the first axle defines a retaining feature. An intermediate component is coupled to the first axle, and the intermediate component is selectively rotatable about the longitudinal axis. The sensor device has an orientation locking structure that is configured to be engaged to selectively fix the orientation of the intermediate component about the longitudinal axis relative to the endcap body.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a safety control system having a processor that (1) automatically interrogates a portable data storage device, (2) determines whether a configuration profile of the safety control system matches a stored configuration profile in the portable data storage device, (3) obtains network settings of the safety control system, and (4) stores network settings into the portable data storage device. In an illustrative example, a safety control system may include a processor designed to perform operations to configure the safety control system with a configuration profile stored in the portable data storage device or download network settings of the safety control system to the portable data storage device under some predetermined conditions. By using the above method, the safety control system may be quickly configured, and network settings may be easily obtained and backed up.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a networked system having a master and multiple slaves, where each slave stores a unique (actual) slave address and a non-unique (virtual) slave address in memory, such that each slave is configured to respond to request messages addressed to the slave's non-unique slave address if a sensor device associated with the is in an active state when the slave receives the request message. In an illustrative example, the networked system may be a Fieldbus-style network (e.g., a network implementing the Modbus protocol). A sensor device may be a break-beam, capacitive touch, or push-button device, for example. An output indicator/actuator may be associated with a sensor device to indicate the status of the sensor device to a user. A networked system implementing sensor-activated response gating may beneficially expand the number of slave devices on the network while achieving low latency response times.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to status indicator devices having a first releasably connectable electrical interface (RCEI) and second RCEI defining an axis from which an illumination module illuminates in substantially all radial directions with respect to the axis. In an illustrative example, an indicator device may include an illumination module and a detection module between the first RCEI and the second RCEI. An electrically conductive path along the axis may connect the first RCEI and the second RCEI. The detection module may be configured such that when the first RCEI receives a signal, the detection module may cause, in accordance with predetermined signal criteria, the illumination module to illuminate. In some examples, the status indicator may advantageously provide instantaneous remote visual indication of the predetermined signal criteria from substantially any viewing angle and at any point along a cable.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a biased engagement relationship between an end cap and a support base slidably disposed within the elongate enclosure of a luminaire. In an illustrative example, the end cap may be in a fixed relationship to an open end of a translucent elongate enclosure that extends along a longitudinal axis. In some examples, the enclosure may house an LED light engine mounted to the support base. A spring may provide, for example, biased engagement relationship between the end cap and the support base over a predetermined range sufficient to prevent direct force transfer between the end cap and the support base over operating temperature ranges and/or vibration profiles. Some embodiments may dynamically damp vibrations of the support base within the enclosure, while providing for differential expansion and contraction of the enclosure and the support base, for example, over a wide temperature range.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a cover assembly having a plurality of ribs integrally formed within an actuator body envelope to increase the resilience of the actuator body envelope against high-pressure water cleaning. In an illustrative example, the actuator body envelope defines an actuator body chamber while an actuator envelope integrally formed with the actuator body envelope defines an actuator chamber. The actuator chamber and the actuator body chamber may adapt to receive an actuator via an insertion aperture at a proximal end of the body envelope. In some implementations, the plurality of ribs may advantageously increase the service life of the cover assembly.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a modular plug-in accessory including a connector for making pluggable electrical connection to a cascading electrical output port for providing cascading connection from an elongate light curtain, the accessory comprising an omni-directional light indicator to illuminate a light signal indicative of a status of the light curtain, wherein the accessory is configured to releasably make or break operative connection to the end cap containing the output port while the end cap is sealably connected to an end of the light curtain. In an illustrative example, the accessory may plug in directly to the terminal end of a light curtain. The receiving light curtain may be connected at the distal end of a string of light curtains. In some examples, the accessory may provide high visibility status indication information about any of the light curtain segments in the string of light curtains.
