A portable device and a method for controlling a user interface (UI) of the same are disclosed. The portable device includes a display unit including a touchscreen configured to display icons of a plurality of icon groups, a sensing unit for sensing a gesture input by a user, and a controller, if the sensed gesture is a gesture corresponding to an icon rearrangement command, configured to output the icon rearrangement command to the display unit in a manner that positions of icons of at least two icon groups of the plurality of icon groups move downward such that the icons are rearranged on the touchscreen.

A display device is disclosed. The display device comprising: a display unit; a sensor unit; a storage unit; and a processor configured to: provide feedback for indicating a security on state of selected first information when selection input for selecting the first information in the security on state is detected, when a security off input for clearing security is detected in response to the feedback, obtain the fingerprint using the display unit, and convert the first information in the security on state into a security off state when the obtained fingerprint is matched with a pre-stored fingerprint, when a security maintenance input for maintaining security is detected in response to the feedback, maintain the security on state of the first information.

According to an embodiment, a method for controlling a portable device connected to an earphone having a coil includes detecting removal of one of left and right units of the earphone worn by a user, generating an electromagnetic pattern corresponding to an Identifier(ID) of the portable device at the removed unit of the earphone, and receiving data from the external device in correspondence with the ID of the portable device. According to an embodiment, a method for controlling a display device includes displaying a Graphic User Interface on a display unit, sensing an earphone within a detection area of the display unit, sensing an electromagnetic pattern of the earphone within a detection area of the display unit, acquiring an ID of an external device connected to the earphone from the sensed electromagnetic pattern, and transmitting data to the external device identified by the acquired ID of the external device.

Disclosed is a portable device having a flexible display unit and a control method for the same. The device provides a dimming mode for dimming the display unit when lack of user input for a preset dimming time is sensed. The dimming mode includes a first dimming mode having a first dimming time and a second dimming mode having a second dimming time. The display unit has a first state before the display unit is expanded, and a second state after the display unit is expanded. A processor of the device converts the device from the first dimming mode to the second dimming mode when the display unit is retracted from the second state to the first state, reverts the device into the first dimming mode when preset user input is sensed, and performs dimming of the display unit when lack of the preset user input is sensed.

The digital device includes a communication unit configured to transmit/receive a signal with an external device; a gesture sensor unit configured to sense a gesture with respect to the digital device; and a processor configured to control the communication unit and the gesture sensor unit, wherein the processor is further configured to: provide a first mode corresponding to a first event when occurrence of the first event is detected; transmit a first signal, commanding provision of a second mode corresponding to a second event, to the external device when occurrence of the second event is detected during provision of the first mode; and switch from the first mode to the second mode when detecting a first gesture with respect to the digital device after transmission of the first signal.

The method includes detecting a state of a foldable display unit, being in a folded state when the device is folded and being in an unfolded state when the device is unfolded, the foldable display unit being divided into first, second and third areas; deactivating touch sensor units of the first and second areas and activating a touch sensor unit of the third area, if the foldable display unit is in the folded state, or deactivating the touch sensor unit of the first area and activating the touch sensor units of the second and third area, if the foldable display unit is in the unfolded state; and changing a width of the second area in proportion to a gripped area by a user.
