Abstract: The specification and drawings present methods and apparatuses for feedback signaling for beamforming purposes in a multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) radio environment. According to an embodiment of the invention, a mobile device is configured to measure an integer number P of different beam groups, each group representing one or more transmit beams and each group corresponding to one or more antenna ports at the mobile device. The mobile device is triggered according to the configuration to provide feedback. The radio access node transmits reference signals on each of the transmit beams across all of the groups for measurement by the mobile device and receives the triggered feedback including, for each of the different beam groups, at least one best match between a transmit beam of the respective group and a corresponding antenna port and an indication of measurement results for the best match.

Abstract: Various communication systems may benefit from improved signaling. For example, communication systems may benefit from sending a multi-numerology reference signal that allows a receiving user equipment to perform simultaneous beamforming training, and channel estimation or channel state information acquisition. A method may include receiving at a user equipment a multi-numerology joint reference signal (610). The reference signal may include a reference signal for data channel demodulation or channel state information acquisition, and beamforming training. The method may also include performing simultaneous beamforming training and channel estimation or channel state information acquisition based on the multi-numerology joint reference signal (620).

Abstract: A method is provided including transmitting a reference signal on a downlink beam to a UE; receiving from the UE a reference signal sequence; determining from the received reference signal sequence at least a preferred uplink beam to pair with the downlink beam; sending downlink signaling to the UE on at least the downlink beam; and receiving uplink signaling from the UE on at least the preferred uplink beam. A further method is provided including receiving a reference signal from a network on a downlink beam; selecting at least one preferred uplink beam to match the downlink beam; selecting a reference signal sequence that corresponds to the selected at least one preferred uplink beam; transmitting the selected reference signal sequence to the network; receiving downlink signaling from the network on at least the downlink beam; and transmitting uplink signaling to the network on the at least one preferred uplink beam.
