    Abstract: A system described herein may provide a technique for maintaining and transferring context information for a Dual Connectivity (“DC”)-capable User Equipment (“UE”) and a secondary Next Generation Node B (“gNB”) in situations where the UE is connected to a primary gNB and the secondary gNB and is handed over to an evolved Node B (“eNB”). The context information may be provided to the eNB without releasing resources or tearing down bearers at the secondary gNB, such that the UE may seamlessly continue communicating with the secondary gNB while a primary connection associated with the UE is handed over from the primary gNB to the eNB.

    Abstract: A method for activating bearers in radio access networks includes receiving information regarding channel conditions for a secondary RAT; identifying a first set of radio bearers for a primary RAT and a second set of radio bearers for the secondary RAT based on the received channel conditions; and establishing the first set of radio bearers associated with the primary RAT. The method may also include providing a message to a core network indicating that first set of radio bearers have been established for the primary RAT, the message includes an indication that the second set of radio bearers will be established after the core network has been configured for operation with the first set of radio bearers; reconfiguring a UE for establishing the second set of radio bearers associated with the secondary RAT; and indicating that the reconfiguration of the UE for the second set of radio bearers is complete.

    Abstract: A system and method provide for receiving, at a radio access network (RAN), a radio resource connection (RRC) connection request from user equipment (UE) in a disconnected/idle state; allocating signaling radio bearer (SRB) resources to the UE; sending an initial UE message to a core network; receiving an initial context set-up from the core network; establishing an RRC session with the UE in an RRC connected state; storing the context information; detecting inactivity in the RRC session while the UE is in the RRC connected state; suspending the RRC session and transitioning the UE device from the RRC connected state to an RRC inactive state based on the inactivity; determining a congested/overloaded state in the RAN; receiving an RRC resume request from the UE; and determining, using the stored context information, whether the UE is to be granted prioritized access to the RAN and transitioned to the RRC connected state.

    Abstract: A roaming platform is disclosed herein. The roaming platform may receive, via a first communication protocol, an authentication request associated with a user equipment (UE), wherein the UE is subscribed to communicate via a first radio access technology of a home network, and wherein the authentication request is associated with enabling the UE to communicate via a visitor network that utilizes a second radio access technology. The roaming platform may identify an identifier associated with the UE in the authentication request. The roaming platform may determine, based on the identifier, a serving component of the home network that is configured to serve the UE. The roaming platform may obtain, from the serving component, authentication information associated with the UE, wherein the authentication information is obtained via a second communication protocol. The roaming platform may provide, based on the authentication information, an authentication response to the authentication request.

    Abstract: A network device may include a memory storing instructions and processor configured to execute the instructions to receive a request for a session management (SM) policy association in relation to establishment of a packet data unit (PDU) session for a particular user equipment (UE) device; requesting, from a second network device, access and mobility (AM) policy decisions pertaining to the UE device; receiving AM policy decisions from the second network device, and creating the SM policy association based on at least the received AM policy decisions. The request for SM policy association includes an identifier associated with the second network device. The processor may be further configured to determine whether the network device is the same as the second network device based on the identifier; and transmit a request to the second network device when it is determined that the second network device is not the same as the first network device.
