    Abstract: A filter arrangement for liquids including a filter element (6) that can be axially inserted into a filter housing (4) during assembly of the filter arrangement (1). After installation, this filter element (6) seals a back flow device at least for the liquid to be filtered with at least one seal (12) in front of a return flow channel (16). The device is configured in such a way that as the filter element (6) is axially withdrawn, a first seal (12 ; 20; 30; 40) can be initially released to enable return flow of unfiltered liquid, and as the filter element (6) continues to be axially withdrawn, a second seal (18; 22; 41) can be released to enable return flow of filtered liquid.

    Abstract: A liquid filter, especially for oil of an internal combustion engine, with a bypass valve including a valve body 20 and a valve seat 21 integrated in an end plate 32 of the filter insert. A spring 22, which urges the bypass valve closed, is mounted in a support member 24 attached to the housing. Thus, parts of the bypass valve subject to wear and soiling can be replaced each time filter element 18 is replaced, and reliable operation of the bypass valve is assured throughout the life of the filter. The filter insert can be designed free of metal for easy disposability. The filter cartridge can also be used with known filter arrangements in which a permanent valve body is housed in the support member 24. When the filter element of the invention is used, this permanent valve body stays in the support member and functions as an intermediate piece 35, which transmits force between spring 22 and valve body 20. The valve function is assumed by new valve body 20 engaging valve seat 21.

    Abstract: A fuel filter includes a housing (412) with a removable element (424) mounted therein. The housing has an inlet port (414) in direct fluid communication with a chamber (418). A first outlet port (416) is in direct fluid communication with a central standpipe (422). The standpipe has a flow element (442) movable therein for controlling the condition of flow openings (436) in the standpipe. The cover further includes a cover projection (482) for supporting a projection (478) on the end cap (460) of the filter element, which opens flow into the standpipe only when the element is installed. The removable element can include first and second filter media rings (426, 716) where fluid is introduced between the rings and flows radially inward through the first media to the first outlet port (416), and radially outward through the second media ring to a second outlet port (710). The second filter media ring (716) includes a distal end (728) freely supported with respect to the second end cap and defining a continuous annular passage (732) into the annular cavity (726) between the media rings (426, 716).

    Abstract: An improved, reduced waste oil filter has a concave housing having a first end, a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. A concave cover is removably and sealably attached to a second end of the housing providing a closed area with which the inlet and outlet ports communicate. An elongated cylindrical disposable oil filter element is supported within the closed area. The filter element has a perforated center tube, a first end of which detachably communicates with the fluid outlet port, the other end of the center tube being closed. The center tube has a filter media there around so that fluid flow into the closed area through the inlet port flows through the filter media and into the center tube to pass out through the outlet port. The filter element has a length greater than the internal depth of the cover so that when the cover is removed from the housing a portion of the length of the filter element extends exteriorly of the cover to facilitate easy removal and replacement. The housing and cover are intended for long term use, therefore only the disposable filter element itself is discarded. In a preferred arrangement the filter includes bypass and waste reducing anti-drain back valves.

    Abstract: A fuel filter assembly (10) for filtering diesel fuel includes a filter head (12), a spin-on replaceable element (13) and a collection bowl (15) removable from the element. The element includes a casing (52) with a turned-in edge portion at a lower end. An adaptor ring (69) is supported on said edge portion inside the element and includes an annular threaded portion (71). The collection bowl has an outer peripheral wall (74) with an annular threaded portion engaging the threaded portion of the adaptor ring. The outer peripheral wall of the bowl has an annular shoulder abutting the turned-in edge portion of said casing to clamp said casing between the adaptor ring and the bowl, when the bowl is attached to the element.     Abstract: A filter assembly for an internal combustion engine includes inner and outer coaxial filter elements disposed in a spin-on canister which is detachably secured to a mounting adaptor. Oil from the crankcase is filtered by the outer filter element and a substantial volume of the filtered oil flows to the primary lubricating circuit of the engine. A small percentage of the filtered oil is subjected to further filtration by the inner filter element and is returned directly to the crankcase. A single gasket including a sealing ring and a concentrically disposed tubular fitting attached to the sealing ring by support legs is positioned to prevent commingling of the oil from the crankcase with oil filtered by the outer filter element and to prevent the oil filtered by the outer filter element from commingling with oil filtered by the inner filter element. In addition, the inner filter element is provided with a warm-up orifice to insure oil flow regardless of the condition of the inner and outer filter elements.

    Abstract: A filter assembly includes a base and a filter cartridge removably mounted on the base. The filter cartridge is held in place on the base by a first set of latching members or fingers. When the cartridge is to be changed, a clipping ring from which the fingers extend is rotated relative to the base, urging the fingers up a camming surface to thereby release the first set of fingers and allow the seal between the cartridge and base to be broken, while the cartridge is retained on the base by a longer second set of fingers. Upon additional rotation of the clipping ring, the longer fingers are released, thereby permitting removal of the cartridge from the base.
