Abstract:
The space between parallel electrode plates (12, 13) of the reactor is dimensioned to make it possible to produce plasma at reasonable applied potential within the gas passages (15) of a monolithic substrate, such as a wallflow filter, in a slice (11) positioned between the electrode plates (12, 13).
Abstract:
An air cleaning device (A) includes a bulb-shaped casing (1) provided at one end with a base (4) and at the other end with an outlet (3e, 3a), in which an AC/DC converter (11) for converting an alternating current from the base (4) into a direct current, a boosting transformer (12) for boosting the direct current, and a negative ion generator or ozone generator (21 or 21A) connected to the boosting transformer (12) are accommodated. Application of high voltage from the boosting transformer (12) to the negative ion generator or ozone generator (21 or 21A) induces electrical discharge to generate negative ions alone or both negative ions and ozone and release the negative ions alone or both the negative ions and the ozone from the outlet (3e, 3a). The device can be disposed on the floor, suspended from above, hung on the wall or set in position at an optional location, using as its power source electric power from a socket (41A, 41B) for a reading lamp, a socket (62) built in the ceiling, or an electrical receptacle mounted in a wall, so that negative ions alone or both negative ions and ozone can be released in an optional direction.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of treating, fly ash having an unacceptably high concentration of carbon, with ozone produced in situ by corona discharge. This method will allow high carbon-content fly ash to be used with air entrainment agents as an additive to cement. The corona discharge can be produced in the exhaust pipe with a venturi of various combustion systems. The device of this invention can be used in conjunction with a triboelectric carbon-fly ash separation system or in a conventional combustion system. The corona discharge is produced off of sharp-tipped metal devices. A venturi is used in the exhaust pipe in the exhaust pipe in conjunction with the sharp-tipped metal devices.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus (10) for sterilizing a filter medium (14) includes the steps of providing a filter element (14), an atmospheric plasma device (12) capable of generating and convecting reactive oxidative species, and locating the filter element (14) downstream of the plasma device (12) whereby both the surface and the bulk of a filter media (14) is exposed to the reactive oxidative species generated from the atmospheric plasma effecting sterilization of the filter element (14). The atmospheric plasma device (12) is either an RF, a DC pulse, or an AC power supply to generate the atmospheric plasma and create the reactive oxidative species.

Abstract:
Air decontamination devices in one example include a filter directly exposed to ultraviolet (nullUVnull) radiation on an upstream side and a downstream side. Ozone may be provided to permeate the filter, as well. Reflectors may be provided to reflect UV radiation emitted in a direction away from the filter, towards the filter. The filter may be a V-bank filter, for example. Air sampling ports and prefilters may be provided. The air decontamination units may be used to decontaminate the air after industrial and medical contaminations and terrorist biological, chemical and radiological attacks, for example. Mobile isolation units, and methods of decontaminating rooms, are disclosed, as well.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an exhaust gas purifying apparatus, for trapping and burning PM, which comprises electrodes and an insulative honeycomb structure. The apparatus is characterized in that the electrodes sake an electric field in the honeycomb structure, the electric field not being parallel with the cell passages of the honeycomb structure. Further the apparatus is characterized in that the electrodes make an electric field in the honeycomb structure, and that the honeycomb structure carries at least one metal selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal and an alkali earth metal; a material that generates oxygen radical by conducting an electric current therethrough; a manganese dioxide; and/or a material having a high dielectric constant.
Abstract:
Methods and systems for establishing Taylor-Couette flow in a fluid are provide. Aspects of the disclosed methods and systems incorporate Taylor-Couette flow in combination with a source of radiation to provide more uniform radiation exposure to the fluid and its components. Common problems of non-uniform radiation levels and concentration boundary layer effects in UV reactors are largely eliminated using the methods and devices provided herein.
