Abstract: A melt-flow controlling method for elastomer by uv irradiation for use in semiconductor packages by ultraviolet irradiation, in which a coated polymer composition is crosslinked by ultraviolet irradiation after a coating process of the polymer composition in producing the elastic adhesives. In producing the elastic adhesives for use as the thermal stress relief layer in semiconductor packages, the inventive method comprises irradiating the polymer composition with ultraviolet light of a 100-500 nm wavelength in order to control the flowability and crosslinking degree of the coated polymer composition. Thus, according to the present invention, a heating furnace is not used such that energy consumption can be reduced. Also, curing can be achieved in a short time so as to increase productivity, and the crosslinking degree is easily controlled by changing the ultraviolet dose as compared to the thermal crossliking process. Furthermore, an installation area of ultraviolet irradiation equipment is smaller than the heating furnace, and little or no epoxy reactive groups participate in the crosslinking reaction upon photo-polymerization so that the resulting film product has an excellent storage stability and thus a long life span.

Abstract: A polyurethane adhesive which is useful in bonding porous and non-porous surfaces is provided. The adhesive is especially useful in bonding windshield glass into automotive frames under a variety of environmental conditions, particularly in after market windshield replacement applications. The polyurethane includes at least one urethane prepolymer which is based on at least one thermoplastic polyol. In one embodiment, the urethane prepolymer may be formed from one or more polyisocyanates, one or more polyetherpolyols and one or more thermoplastic polyesterpolyols, wherein the prepolymer has a free isocyanate content of from about 0.6 to about 3.5 % by weight, based on the weight of the polyurethane. In another embodiment, a one-part adhesive composition is provided which includes an isocyanate-functional and thermoplastic polyurethane prepolymer having a free isocyanate content of from about 0.6 to about 3.5 % by weight, based on the weight of the polyurethane, and a combination of several catalysts which are capable of catalyzing the reaction of isocyanate moieties with isocyanate-reactive moieties while providing less temperature dependent catalyzing of the reaction between isocyanate moieties and water. Also provided is a process for bonding two or more substrates together utilizing the polyurethane adhesive. In automotive windshield replacement applications, the polyurethane adhesive allows for a sufficient working time and development of green strength to provide a safe drive-away time within 1 hour at a temperature from about 0 to about 100null C.

Abstract: This invention relates to an article comprising a bio-supportive media which bio-degrades at a preferred rate, comprising at least one bio-limiting agent and at least one nutritional source on a substrate. The media may be characterized as a polymer, composite, or amalgam of commonly used materials. The invention relates to altering the physical/chemical composition of the media such that biodegradation can occur at a specific, usually accelerated, preferred rate. Further, the biodegradation rate may be managed and balanced concurrently with the ability to provide for the exposure of integral component(s) which are bio-active. This relationship essentially provides for a managed release or managed availability of agent(s) which creates a new set of ecological conditions. These sustained conditions can maintain a micro-habitat; a limited consort of species, often slime which, due to this ecological trophic niche position, can utilize innate allelopathic means to further protect their position and deter predation. The relationships of the nutrients, bio-limiters, and biomass comprise a unique micro-habitat as an interface which provides protection from corrosion and deterioration of the substrate upon which it is fixed, and limits the biomass accumulation on the surface thereby providing control of fouling by reducing higher order organism(s) attachments, which otherwise are very economically costly. Specifically the invention relates to modifying the media formation whether as a polymer or composite or amalgam such that the physical and chemical properties of the media are altered to become more degradable in the host habitat. This is accomplished by altering the polymerization or formation of the composite or amalgam to provide for increased inter-granular or molecular locations which permit enhanced bio-degradative activity. Then by occluding or interspersing physically or chemically an agent which has bio-active properties, the organisms of various species which may attach or be attracted to the surface can be limited by their nutrition and tolerance of bio-active preference without the need for toxification or mechanical removal of undesirable or unwanted organisms as settlers. Once the community of selected organisms establishes a natural equilibrium with the host habitat any capacity for allelopathic protection of the biofilm can be utilized or enhanced by this new and unique biological community to its benefit through management of the media components.

Abstract: A developer container having an opening for discharging a developer contained therein and a sealing surface portion surrounding the opening, is sealed with a sealing member having a sealant layer and applied onto the sealing surface portion of the developer container with the sealant layer. The sealant layer contains a dispersed material therein and the sealing surface portion of the developer container contains a dispersed material, which is mutually soluble with the dispersed material in the sealant layer. The dispersed material in the sealant layer preferably includes a thermoplastic elastomer. The resultant sealed developer container may be provided with a sound seal structure even at a relatively low sealing pressure causing a smaller sealing surface depression of the developer container, which allows re-sealing of the container.
