Abstract:
Solder pastes for providing high elasticity, low rigidity solder joints are disclosed. The solder pastes may be used between two parts having large mismatches in their coefficients of thermal expansion and/or when there is a high likelihood of mechanical deformity when the two parts are soldered together. In one particular exemplary embodiment, a solder paste may be realized as a composition comprising a solder powder and high melting temperature particles with a flux, wherein the ratio between solder powder and high melting temperature particles may be between 2:1 and 1:10.
Abstract:
A method and system for minimizing bus traffic in a video decoder is disclosed. A method and system for processing a portion of a reference picture includes designating the reference picture, selecting a display picture within the reference picture, transmitting a display picture size, and sending a display picture offset. A method and system for compressing IDCT coefficients corresponding to a macroblock, the macroblock having a plurality of blocks, includes locating each non-zero IDCT coefficient corresponding to one of the plurality of blocks, assigning an index to the non-zero IDCT coefficient, the index designating a location within the one of the plurality of blocks, packing the non-zero IDCT coefficient in little endian format, and specifying a terminator bit corresponding to the non-zero coefficient, the terminator bit indicating the end of all non-zero IDCT coefficients for the one of the plurality of blocks. A method and system for selectively controlling each hardware device within a video decoder includes obtaining a video stream, performing VLC decoding, encoding a plurality of instructions to control each hardware device within the video decoder, decoding each one of the plurality of instructions, and optionally performing an IDCT in response to each one of the plurality of instructions.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for detecting and marking delamination defects on thin film disks are disclosed. The apparatus includes a read/write (R/W) head and a burnishing head mounted on separate arms that access the disk while spinning on the test stand. The controller uses the R/W head to perform an initial magnetic test of selected areas on the disk to establish an initial defect map. The burnish head is then flown over the surface for an extended time to accelerate and open up the latent delamination defects by impacting protruding material. The R/W head is then used to perform a second magnetic test which is compared against the first test to identify the delamination defects which have been developed by the burnishing. The delamination defects are then marked with a magnetic pattern which aids in optically locating the defect during subsequent failure analysis.
Abstract:
A method for generating high purity acid or base in an aqueous stream for use in analysis. For generating a base for anion chromatography, the aqueous stream is directed through a cation exchange bed having strongly acid first and weakly acidic second portions. An electrical potential is applied to the bed. Cations on the bed electromigrate into the aqueous stream while hydroxide ions are electrolytically generated to form a base-containing eluent. Analytes to be detected and the generated eluent flow through a detector.
Abstract:
An umbrella unit attachable to vehicles has a conventional umbrella and an umbrella-deploying and retracting device which can be attached to a vehicle, thereby protecting passengers and a car's interior from rain. Attachment can occur at a side-door or on a roof of a vehicle. The umbrella-deploying and retracting device has closable doors to protect and conceal the umbrella and umbrella-deploying and retracting device when the umbrella is not in use. The umbrella-deploying and retracting device also has a control mechanism which controls umbrella-deployment and umbrella-storage via pulleys and a spring. The umbrella can easily be attached to and subsequently separated from the umbrella-deploying and retracting device, to allow use of the umbrella away from the vehicle.

Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for time-lapse astrophotography. One embodiment of the invention comprises a method for capturing a time-lapse image sequence. The method comprises capturing a first plurality of photographs, wherein capturing each photograph of the first plurality of photographs comprises opening a shutter of an image-capture device; while the shutter of the image-capture device is open, moving the image-capture device to reduce the movement of a celestial object or coordinate within the field of view of the image-capture device; closing the shutter of the image-capture device; and moving the image-capture device to a subsequent orientation.
