Abstract:
There is described a method for detection of occurrence of printing errors on printed substrates during processing thereof on a printing press comprising the steps of providing multiple sensors on functional components of the printing press to monitor the behavior of the printing press during processing of the printed substrates and performing an in-line analysis of the behavior of the printing press to determine occurrence of a characteristic behavior of the printing press which leads or is likely to lead to occurrence of printing errors on the printed substrates or which leads or is likely to lead to good printing quality of the printed substrates. In-line analysis of the behavior of the printing press preferably includes performing fuzzy pattern classification of the behavior of the printing press. According to one embodiment of the proposed method in-line analysis of the behavior of the printing press is coupled with an in-line optical inspection of the printed substrates.
Abstract:
There is described a color control pattern (CP) for the optical measurement of colors printed on a sheet or web substrate (S) by means of a multicolor printing press, especially by means of a multicolor security printing press, which substrate (S) a exhibits an effective printed region (EF) having a multicolor printed image comprising a plurality of juxtaposed colored areas (A-H) printed with a corresponding plurality of printing inks of different colors, wherein the color control pattern (CP) is located in a margin portion (Im) of the substrate (S) next to the effective printed region (EF). The color control pattern (CP) comprises one or more color control strips (a-d) extending transversely to a direction of transport (T) of the substrate (S), each color control strip (a-d) comprising a plurality of distinct color control fields (CF, CFA to CFH) consisting of printed fields of each relevant printing ink that is printed in the effective printed region (EF). The color control fields (CF, CFA to CFH) are coordinated to actual application of the relevant printing inks in the effective printed region (EF) and are positioned transversely to the direction of transport (T) of the substrate (S) at locations corresponding to actual positions where the relevant printing inks are applied in the effective printed region (EF).

Abstract:
A sheet-processing machine comprises a plurality of modules which are passed through one after the other by the sheets to be processed. The modules each have a sheet input interface and/or a sheet output interface, wherein, in at least one of the modules, the sheet input interface and/or the sheet output interface can optionally be coupled to sheet output interfaces and sheet input interfaces, respectively, of at least two other modules.
Abstract:
There is described a method and system for producing notes of securities, in particular banknotes, wherein individual printed sheets or successive printed portions of a continuous web are cut into individual notes on a sheet-fed or web-fed processing system, and wherein these individual notes are subsequently processed by a single-note processing system comprising a plurality of single-note processing stations. Individual notes corresponding to independent production cycles or dependent production cycles are produced on the sheet-fed or web-fed processing system, each production cycle being processed on a separate one of the single-note processing stations. Each production cycle is subdivided into a sequence of distinct production sub-cycles corresponding to successive subsets of individual notes (150) that are to be processed on the single-note processing stations, the subsets of individual notes being produced on the sheet-fed or web-fed processing system (300) according to a time-wise interleaved sequence of production sub-cycles corresponding to distinct production cycles.
Abstract:
There is described a method for checking the authenticity of security documents, in particular banknotes, wherein authentic security documents comprise security features (41-49; 30; 10; 51, 52) printed, applied or otherwise provided on the security documents, which security features comprise characteristic visual features intrinsic to the processes used for producing the security documents. The method comprises the step of digitally processing a sample image of at least one region of interest (R.o.I.) of the surface of a candidate document to be authenticated, which region of interest encompasses at least part of the security features, the digital processing including performing a decomposition of the sample image by means of wavelet transform (WT) of the sample image. Such decomposition of the sample image is based on a wavelet packet transform (WPT) of the sample image, preferably a so-called two-dimensional shift invariant WPT (2D-SIWPT)
Abstract:
The invention relates to a sheet guide element for use in an apparatus for transporting sheets by means of a gripper system having at least two grippers spaced apart from each other and a sheet guide surface defined by the sheet guide element. Here, the sheet guide element is provided with depressions in the sheet guide surface, running parallel to the transport direction, at least in some sections, in order at least partially to accommodate the grippers, so that the sheet guide surface described by the sheet guide element in the transport direction runs, at least in some sections, at the same height as the movement path of the sheet leading edge fixed in the gripper system.
Abstract:
There is described method of processing printed sheets (100), especially sheets of printed securities, into individual documents (150), such as banknotes, each printed sheet (100) comprising an array of imprints arranged in a matrix of rows and columns. The method comprises the following steps : (i) pre-processing the printed sheets (100) by partly slitting each printed sheet (100) row-wise or column-wise to form slits (110) between adjacent rows or adjacent columns of imprints, slitting being performed in such a manner that the adjacent rows or adjacent columns of imprints are still attached to one another at edges of each thus pre-processed printed sheet (100′); (ii) stacking the pre-processed printed sheets (100′) so as to form sheet stacks (121, 122) comprising a predetermined number of pre-processed printed sheets (100′) stacked one upon the other; and (iii) processing the sheet stacks (121, 122) by cutting each sheet stack (121, 122) column-wise or row-wise along cutting lines (115) between adjacent columns or rows of imprints, cutting being performed along a direction perpendicular to the direction of the slits (110) and in such a manner that individual documents (150) are produced as a result. Also described is a system for carrying out this method.
