Abstract:
A method for reducing a friction coefficient adjacent a lubricated surface, and a lubricant composition for reducing a friction coefficient between lubricated surfaces. The method includes providing an amount of metal-containing dispersed in a fully formulated lubricant composition containing a base oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the nanoparticles have an average particles size ranging from about 1 to about 10 nanometers. The lubricant composition containing the metal-containing nanoparticles is applied to a surface to be lubricated.
Abstract:
Coating systems which provide corrosion resistance and, optionally, lubrication, for threaded connections are disclosed. The compositions comprise a first coating composition comprising polymer matrices of polyimides or epoxies which are modified with small amounts of a fluorine containing polymer. Also present in the coating compositions are corrosion inhibiting agents and inorganic particles having a mean diameter of between approximately 10 nm and 10 μm. Solid lubricants, which may include at least one of PTFE, HDPE, Graphite, and MoS2, are optionally added to provide the first coating with a low coefficient of friction. The coating systems may further comprise a second coating composition, comprising a solid lubricant dispersed within an epoxy resin and a solvent. The first and second coating compositions are deposited on at least a portion of at least one of the pin and box members of the threaded connections.
Abstract:
A method and system of creating a cylinder oil having a target TBN ranging from 40 to 70 for use in a two-stroke en line. Fresh system oil having a TBN less than 10 is provided. The fresh system oil is used in the two-stroke engine to product partially used system oil. An initial fluid containing at least some partially used system oil is provided. A first TBN of the initial fluid is determined. Cylinder oil having the target TBN is created by blending the initial fluid having the first TBN with at least one suited additive. The cylinder oil is provided to the two-stroke engine.
Abstract:
A granular solid wax particle comprising a highly paraffinic wax having a low T10 boiling point less than 427° C. and an inorganic powder coating; optionally with a layer of higher boiling wax over the highly paraffinic wax having a low T10 boiling point, and an inorganic powder coating over the layer of higher boiling wax. In separate embodiments, a highly paraffinic wax having a T10 boiling point less than 427° C. or a highly paraffinic wax having a needle penetration greater than 3 mm/10 at 25° C. is coated with a powder that adsorbs the wax without being encapsulated by the wax in a hot drop wax test. Also, a process for transporting highly paraffinic wax having a T10 boiling point less than 427° C. as granular solid wax particles. And, a method of making base oil from granular solid wax particles transported from a distant location.
Abstract:
A lubricant molded body, which is to be applied to a surface of a photosensitive layer for electrophotography in an image forming apparatus, for example, is composed of at least two kinds of higher fatty acid metallic salts having respectively different carbon numbers. As the higher fatty acid metallic salt that forms lubricant molded body, compounds such as zinc stearate, calcium stearate, barium stearate, aluminum stearate, zinc laurate, calcium laurate, etc. may be recited. The higher fatty acid metallic salts may contain at least one kind of fillers selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, tungsten disulfide, molybdenum disulfide, graphite fluoride, graphite, boron nitride, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF).
Abstract:
The present invention intends to provide a slide member with increasing an abrasion resistance and an adherence, a friction coefficient is further decreased.A part of the base member surface of the slide member is provided with a streak so that a surface roughness thereof by a ten-point height of roughness profile is 8 to 18 μmRz. A dry coat lubricant has polyamideimide resin, at least one kind of a layer improve agent selected from epoxysilane and epoxy resin, and at least one kind of hard particles selected from a silicon nitride and an alumina. Such construction can not only increase the abrasion resistance and the adherence of the slide member, but can decrease friction coefficient of the slide member.

Abstract:
The present invention has its object to provide a lubricating oil for ship propulsor bearings which is high in bearing-damaging pressure, equivalent in lubricity and anticorrosiveness to the conventional mineral oil-based lubricating oils, higher in biodegradability than in the art and miscible with seawater. The present invention provides a lubricating oil for ship propulsor bearings which comprises a water-soluble alkylene glycol and/or polyalkylene glycol (A) with a number average molecular weight of not higher than 1,000 as a base oil as well as a water-soluble thickening agent (B) and a water-soluble anticorrosive agent (C) and in which the content of (A) is 80 to 98% by weight, that of (B) is 1 to 10% by weight and that of (C) is 1 to 10% by weight, relative to the weight of the lubricating oil for ship propulsor bearings and the bearing-damaging pressure at 50° C. is not lower than 3.5 MPa.
