Abstract:
The invention relates to a new process for the preparation of chlorides of carboxylic acids by reaction of tetrachloroethylene carbonate with a carboxylic acid of formula R(COOH).sub.n at a temperature of between 80.degree. and 160.degree. C.The radical R may be very diverse and n is an integer which can take the values 1 to 4.A solvent is not necessary. A catalyst may be employed.Acyl chlorides of a high purity are obtained.
Abstract:
High purity amino-1,3-benzenediols are prepared by (a) contacting a 1,3-bis(alkylcarbonato)benzene with a nitrating agent under rection conditions such that a 1,3-bis(alkylcarbonato)nitrobenzene is formed, (b) contacting the 1,3-bis(alkylcarbonato)nitrobenzene with a hydrolyzing agent under conditions such that a nitro-1,3-benzenediol is produced, and (c) contacting the nitro-1,3-benzenediol with a reducing agent under conditions such that an amino-1,3-benzenediol is produced. Of the amino-1,3-benzenediols, 4,6-diamino-1,3-benzenediol is particularly useful in the preparation of high molecular weight polybenzoxazoles.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of chloronitroanilines or chloronitrophenols, which comprises chlorinating nitroanilines or nitrophenols in hydrochloric acid by adding simultaneously separate streams of nitroanilines or nitrophenols and of a chlorinating agent to said hydrochloric acid. The process affords pure products in good yield. An accumulation of chlorine during the reaction is avoided.Chloronitroanilines and chloronitrophenols are useful intermediates for the snythesis of disperse dyes.
Abstract:
Cyclobutarenes are prepared by pyrolyzing a suitable benzene, naphthalene, or pyridine derivative in the presence of an amount steam effective to substantially reduce the partial pressure of the pyrolyzing compound.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of ether and thioether compounds of formula ##STR1## by reacting compounds of formula ##STR2## with compounds of formulaR.sub.1 --Ywherein R, R.sub.1, X, Y and n are as defined in claim 1, in the presence of an acid acceptor and in an aliphatic ketone, which process is carried out under pressure in the temperature range from 115.degree. to 200.degree. C.
Abstract:
2,2-Bis-(3-nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane is prepared by oxidation of 2,2-bis-(4-methylphenyl)-hexafluoropropane to 2,2-bis-(4-carboxyphenyl)-hexafluoropropane, nitration of this compound to 2,2-bis-(4-carboxy-3-nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane and decarboxylation of the last-mentioned compound. The process lends to 2,2-bis-(3-nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane, free of isomers, in an industrially simple manner and with the use of common chemicals. The compound is a valuable intermediate in the polymer field. The 2,2-bis-(4-carboxy-3-nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane occurring as an intermediate in the process is novel.
Abstract:
Di(nitrophenyl) ethers are prepared by the reaction of a halogeno-nitrophenyl compound with a base wherein the water in the reaction system is removed during the reaction. The reaction can be advantageously carried out at two different temperatures. The use of a molar excess of the halogeno-nitrophenyl compound improves the yield of di(nitrophenyl) ether. Crude di(nitrophenyl) ether is purified by extraction into a non-aqueous solvent using a dual temperature method to maintain the ether in the liquid phase.
Abstract:
This invention pertains to a process for preparing substituted and unsubstituted benzotrichlorides. The process generally involves reacting the starting compound with a perchloroalkane with presence of base and a phase transfer catalyst.
