Abstract: Disclosed is a motion detection device for monitoring movement of a component comprising a housing removably connectable to the component; an indicator arranged within the housing, the indicator being operable to indicate movement of the component; at least one sensor arranged within the housing, the at least one sensor configured to sense data in response to a gravitational force acting thereon; and a controller operably coupled to the at least one sensor and the indicator, the controller including an algorithm configured to determine when the motion detection device is moving and to operate the indicator when the motion detection device is moving.

Abstract: An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator rope sway damping assembly includes a plurality of sway dampers having a width and a length. An actuator device selectively causes movement of the sway dampers in a direction transverse to the length between a first position where the sway dampers are spaced apart by a first distance and a second, sway-damping position where the sway dampers are spaced apart by a second, shorter distance. The actuator device provides an indication when the sway dampers are in the first position.

Abstract: Disclosed is an elevator system for a multilevel architectural structure, the system having: a system controller, an elevator and an elevator controller, wherein the system controller and elevator controller communicate over a network, multi-level hoistway in which the elevator travels, the multi-level hoistway including a plurality of egress levels, including a first egress level, the first level being a primary egress level, wherein during an alarm condition the system, when the primary level is inaccessible, performs an emergency assessment of identifying a safe level of the plurality of levels at which to discharge passengers, the assessment comprising obtaining a smoke density profile for the egress levels, the profile illustrating a distribution of smoke within the multilevel structure, analyzing the smoke density profile, identifying a safe level having a smoke density that is safe, and instructing the elevator to discharge passengers on the safe level.

There is also provided a method of detecting a condition or state of the first solenoid (2) or the magnet (3).

Abstract: A linear propulsion machine and system (10) is disclosed that includes a stator (30) having a plurality of teeth (34) and a mover (32) moveable in a linear direction along the stator (30). The mover may include a plurality of spaced apart ferromagnetic strata (40), a plurality of slots (42), a plurality of wire coils (44), and a plurality of magnet layers (46). Each of the slots (42) may be adjacent to at least one of the strata (40). Each coil (44) may be disposed in a slot (42). Each magnet layer (46) may be sandwiched between strata (40) and disposed inside one of the plurality of coils (44). Each coil (44) is disposed perpendicularly to the direction of magnetic flux of the magnet layer (46) around which the coil (44) is wound. In an embodiment, the teeth (34) or the magnet layer (46) may be disposed at an angle.

Embodiments include receiving a call request from an elevator floor; capturing an image of the elevator floor registering the call request responsive to receiving the call request; and determining, from the image, a presence of one or more waiting passengers on the elevator floor registering the call request. Embodiments also include dispatching an elevator car to the elevator floor registering the call request; and controlling the elevator car based at least in part on determining the presence of the one or more waiting passengers.
