    Abstract: Disclosed is a motion detection device for monitoring movement of a component comprising a housing removably connectable to the component; an indicator arranged within the housing, the indicator being operable to indicate movement of the component; at least one sensor arranged within the housing, the at least one sensor configured to sense data in response to a gravitational force acting thereon; and a controller operably coupled to the at least one sensor and the indicator, the controller including an algorithm configured to determine when the motion detection device is moving and to operate the indicator when the motion detection device is moving.

    Abstract: An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator rope sway damping assembly includes a plurality of sway dampers having a width and a length. An actuator device selectively causes movement of the sway dampers in a direction transverse to the length between a first position where the sway dampers are spaced apart by a first distance and a second, sway-damping position where the sway dampers are spaced apart by a second, shorter distance. The actuator device provides an indication when the sway dampers are in the first position.

There is also provided a method of detecting a condition or state of the first solenoid (2) or the magnet (3).

    Abstract: A linear propulsion machine and system (10) is disclosed that includes a stator (30) having a plurality of teeth (34) and a mover (32) moveable in a linear direction along the stator (30). The mover may include a plurality of spaced apart ferromagnetic strata (40), a plurality of slots (42), a plurality of wire coils (44), and a plurality of magnet layers (46). Each of the slots (42) may be adjacent to at least one of the strata (40). Each coil (44) may be disposed in a slot (42). Each magnet layer (46) may be sandwiched between strata (40) and disposed inside one of the plurality of coils (44). Each coil (44) is disposed perpendicularly to the direction of magnetic flux of the magnet layer (46) around which the coil (44) is wound. In an embodiment, the teeth (34) or the magnet layer (46) may be disposed at an angle.
